Leela Naidu ; July 28, 2009

Leela Naidu died in Mumbai on 28th July, 2009 due to lung failure after a prolonged bout of influenza, she was 69.

Surprised that I didn't see this on Indian filmy websites. Noticed it while surfing wikipedia for info on Maharani Gayatri Devi and there was a mention that M G D and L N both were featured in Vogue together, and died just one day apart.

Leela Naidu (Telugu: లీలా నాయుడు) (1940 - July 28, 2009) was an Indian actress who has starred in a number of Hindi films, most known for Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (1963), based on the famous real-life Nanavati case, as well as The Householder, Merchant Ivory Productions' first film. She was Femina Miss India in 1954, and was featured in the Vogue along with Maharani Gayatri Devi in the list of 'World's Ten Most Beautiful Women', and in time was remembered for her classical beauty and subtle acting style

Films

* Anuradha (1960)...aka Love of Anuradha (International: English title)....as Anuradha Roy
* Ummeed (1962)
* Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (1963).... Neena
* The Householder (1963)... aka Gharbar....as Indu
* Baghi (1964)
* The Guru (1969) .... as Girl at the Party
* Trikaal (Past, Present and Future) (1985)....as Dona Maria Souzasoares
* Electric Moon (1992)....Socks

I'm sure there are more films as well. Anyway, no matter how few a films she acted in, she left unforgettable impression in Anuradha & Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke. As far as I remember, Anuradha (film) did win President's award for best film of the year.

That is not correct. The music for 'Shiva Ka Insaaf', like all other movies of Raj N. Sippy, was composed by R.D. Burman.

Simple Kapadia, Dimple Kapadia’s younger sister, was cremated on Wednesday, having lost her three-year battle against cancer in a hospital in Andheri on Tuesday. Director Rahul Dholakia was visibly upset. “My friend is no more. I really can’t talk,” he said.

Dimple, Akshay Kumar, Dimple’s son-in-law and Twinkle Khanna, Simple’s niece, Sunny Deol and Honey Irani attended the funeral rites amongst others.

Simple’s Bollywood career lasted for 10 years in front of the screens from 1977-86, appearing with most of the big stars of the time. Her charm and innocence won her many admirers in movies such as Shakti Samanta’s Anurodh with Rajesh Khanna, Ahsaas with Shashi Kapoor, Shakka with Jeetendra and Jeevan Dhara with Rekha. However, she could also play the role of the vamp comfortably as she effortlessly showed in her last movie Pyaar Ke Do Pal which also starred Jayapradha and Mithun Chakraborty.

Later, she turned to costume design and continued working in the industry until three years ago when she was diagnosed. She won a National Award for her work on Rudaali, which starred her sister and Rakhi Gulzaar. May she rest in peace.

Is Ahsaas (1979) available on DVD ?? Apart from Simple Kapadia, it starred Shashi Kapoor, Rakesh Bedi, Yunus Parvez, Shammi Kapor, Amitabh Bachchan (guest role), and Dina-Parvez in lead roles. This film had excellent music.

Remembering Abrar Alvi
November 21st, 2009 - 12:34 am ICT by sampurn

Remembering Abrar Alvi Guru Dutt’s resident writer, Abrar Alvi, passed away on Wednesday due to a stomach disorder. His health went bad after he suffered from a paralytic attack four years ago.

Even though he has worked for other banners too, Alvi was best known for working with Guru Dutt. He directed Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and wrote dialogue/screenplay for Mr. and Mrs. 55, Pyaasa, Chaudvin Ka Chaand and Aar Paar.

On his demise, lyricist/writer Gulzar shared an incident about Alvi. He spoke about a time when he had to once re-write the screenplay and dialogue of a film written by Alvi on the film’s lead actor, Dilip Kumar’s request as he didn’t get along with Alvi. Gulzar then interacted with Alvi a lot and will always feel his loss every time he passes by Alvi’s house.

Asha Parekh remembers Alvi as a refined, cultured man who knew a lot. She feels that all the great ones are slowly going away.

It was great to see Abrar Alvi talking about Guru Dutt in classic Ch 4 "In Search Of Guru Dutt" documentary. I guess, that documentary becomes even more valuable now with Abrar Alvi, Johny Walker and may be a few others that were in that documentary, passing away. Guru Dutt's brother Atma Ram, who passed away in 1994, perhaps was also in that documentary. Guru Dutt's Mom, was also in that doc.

I don't think you'll see Abrar Alvi in any other video program ??

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, February 2, 2010 - 19:26 IST

Tahir Hussain It's better to burn out than fade away...
...said the famous personality Neil Young. Well, this couldn't have been more true today as superstar Aamir Khan lost his father Tahir Hussain today. Life (or is it death?) just cannot be more cruel than this one. While on one hand, where Aamir khan was riding sky high on the success of the massive hit flick 3 Idiots, on the other hand, tragedy strikes the Khan household and how!

Aamir Khan's father Tahir Hussain suffered a massive heart attack. Aamir's brother Faisal Khan and mother are at the star's residence, while, Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao, who are in Los Angeles, will be coming back to Mumbai tomorrow afternoon. The funeral is likely to be held tomorrow evening. For the uninitiated lot, the legendary Tahir Hussain has produced films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Anamika (1973), Caravan (1973) and had directed the Aamir-Juhi starrer Tum Mere Ho in the year 1990. It's a little known fact that he had also acted in a couple of films like Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), and Pyar Ka Mausam (1969).

Veteran actor Macmohan passes away

Veteran Bollywood actor Macmohan, immortalised in the role of Gabbar Singh's sidekick Sambha in Ramesh Sippy's [ Images ] 1975 blockbuster Sholay [ Images ], died in Mumbai [ Images ] on Monday.

The actor breathed his last at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani [ Images ] hospital in suburban Mumbai. He was suffering from cancer, hospital sources said. He was 71 years old.

Macmohan, who started his career with Haqeeqat in 1964, acted in over 175 films in a career spanning 46 years.
