Leela Naidu (Telugu: లీలా నాయుడు) (1940 - July 28, 2009) was an Indian actress who has starred in a number of Hindi films, most known for Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke (1963), based on the famous real-life Nanavati case, as well as The Householder, Merchant Ivory Productions' first film. She was Femina Miss India in 1954, and was featured in the Vogue along with Maharani Gayatri Devi in the list of 'World's Ten Most Beautiful Women', and in time was remembered for her classical beauty and subtle acting style

Film lyricist Gulshan Bawra passes away

Noted film lyricist Gulshan Bawra, who gave memorable songs like 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti', died in Mumbai on Friday following a heart attack.

He was 72 and is survived by his wife.
- - - there would be no cremation as Bawra had expressed desire to donate his body, she said, adding that the body would be taken to government J J Hospital here.

Born in present Pakistan, the lyricist moved to India after partition.

In his 42 years of film career, he penned many popular songs, including 'Yaari hai imaan mera yaar meri zindagi', 'Sanam teri Kasam', 'Agar tum na hote', 'Aati rahengi baharein' and 'Jeevan ke har mod par mil jayenge humsafar'.

He received the Filmfare award for 'Yaari hai imaan mera' song and went on to provide lyrics for several Hindi blockbusters.

He also gave music in at least one film. Shiva Ka Insaaf (1985)

Leela Naidu died in Mumbai on 28th July, 2009 due to lung failure after a prolonged bout of influenza, she was 69.

Simple Kapadia, Dimple Kapadia’s younger sister, was cremated on Wednesday, having lost her three-year battle against cancer in a hospital in Andheri on Tuesday. Director Rahul Dholakia was visibly upset. “My friend is no more. I really can’t talk,” he said.

Dimple, Akshay Kumar, Dimple’s son-in-law and Twinkle Khanna, Simple’s niece, Sunny Deol and Honey Irani attended the funeral rites amongst others.

Simple’s Bollywood career lasted for 10 years in front of the screens from 1977-86, appearing with most of the big stars of the time. Her charm and innocence won her many admirers in movies such as Shakti Samanta’s Anurodh with Rajesh Khanna, Ahsaas with Shashi Kapoor, Shakka with Jeetendra and Jeevan Dhara with Rekha. However, she could also play the role of the vamp comfortably as she effortlessly showed in her last movie Pyaar Ke Do Pal which also starred Jayapradha and Mithun Chakraborty.

Later, she turned to costume design and continued working in the industry until three years ago when she was diagnosed. She won a National Award for her work on Rudaali, which starred her sister and Rakhi Gulzaar. May she rest in peace.

Aamir Khan's father Tahir Hussain passes away

...said the famous personality Neil Young. Well, this couldn't have been more true today as superstar Aamir Khan lost his father Tahir Hussain today. Life (or is it death?) just cannot be more cruel than this one. While on one hand, where Aamir khan was riding sky high on the success of the massive hit flick 3 Idiots, on the other hand, tragedy strikes the Khan household and how!

Aamir Khan's father Tahir Hussain suffered a massive heart attack. Aamir's brother Faisal Khan and mother are at the star's residence, while, Aamir and his wife Kiran Rao, who are in Los Angeles, will be coming back to Mumbai tomorrow afternoon. The funeral is likely to be held tomorrow evening. For the uninitiated lot, the legendary Tahir Hussain has produced films like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993), Anamika (1973), Caravan (1973) and had directed the Aamir-Juhi starrer Tum Mere Ho in the year 1990. It's a little known fact that he had also acted in a couple of films like Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai (1998), and Pyar Ka Mausam (1969).

Veteran actor Sujit Kumar passes away

Sujit Kumar Veteran actor-producer Sujit Kumar, who worked in innumerable Hindi films passed away this morning, at the age of 75.

Kumar was well-known for his roles in film like Aradhana, Ittefaq, Dharam Veer and innumerable Hindi films in the 70's and 80's.

Sujit Kumar was suffering from cancer for a long time. He is survived by his son Jatin Kumar and daughter Henna.

Actress Bina Rai is dead
Noted actress Bina Rai, best known for her roles in films like Anarkali and Taj Mahal, passed away here today following a cardiac arrest.

Noted actress Bina Rai, best known for her roles in films like Anarkali and Taj Mahal, passed away here today following a cardiac arrest.

The Filmfare Award winning actress, wife of late actor Premnath, was 78 and is survived by her sons Prem Kishen and Monty.

Prem Kishen is a well known television producer who co-owns the television software company, Cinevista.

"My mother died of a cardiac arrest at 5 am. The funeral will take place tomorrow," Monty, the actress's younger son said.

Rai, who hailed from Lucknow, entered movies through a talent hunt contest. Her first film was Kali Ghata (1951) opposite Kishore Sahu, who was also the movie's producer.

In the 1950s she married actor Prem Nath, who being the brother-in-law of the actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor, was part of the Kapoor family.

Rai and Prem Nath had acted together in some films, the first being Aurat (1953). They married and soon set up their own production unit, P N Films. Their first film under P N Films banner was Shagufa (1954). Their subsequent films like Samunder and Watan did not do well.

Rai's films with Pradeep Kumar remain her best remembered performances. She played title roles in Anarkali (1953), Taj Mahal (1963) and Ghunghat (1960) with the last once fetched her Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
