This might be an interesting topic to help or get help in decyphering film song lyrics.

Om Shanti Om songs have grown on me, specially the Darde Disco one. But it has so many, unknown to me but colorful urdu words that I wish I knew what they meant.

Could you pl give lyrics meanings. I'm starting with posting Darde Disco lyrics with words in bold that I don't understand fully.

Movie: Om Shanti Om

Song: dard-e-disco
Music by: Vishal-Shekhar
Lyrics: Javed Akhtar
Singers:Dard-E-Disco / Sukhwinder Singh, Marianne,Nisha, Caralisa
Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Pudukone, Uvika

wo haseena wo neelampari
kar gayi kaisi jaadugari
neend in aankhon se cheen li hai
dil mein bechainiyaan hai bhari

main bechara, hun awara
bolo samjhaaun main ye ab kis kisko

dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco
dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco

ho…
faslein gul thi
gulposhiyon ka mausam tha
humpar kabhi
sargoshiyon ka mausaum tha
kaisa junoon
khwaabon ki anjuman mein tha
kya main kahoon
kya mere baagpan mein tha
ranjish chala tha
fuwaaraa
toota jo khwaab ka
gubaaraa
to firta hun main
London, Paris, New York, LA, San Fransisco

dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco
dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco

lamha lamha armaano ki farmaayish thi
lamha lamha jurrat ki aazmaayish thi
abr-e-karam ghir ghir ke mujhpe tarsa tha
abr-e-karam barsa to tab mein tarsa tha
fir soona hua
manzar mera
woh mera sanam
dilbar mera
dil tod gaya
mujhe chhodd gaya
wo pichle mahine ki chabbis ko

dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco
dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco

wo haseena wo neelampari
kar gayi kaisi jaadugari
neend in aankhon se cheen li hai
dil mein bechainiyaan hai bhari

main bechara, hun awara
bolo samjhaaun main ye ab kis kisko

dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco
dil mein mere hai dard-e-disco
dard-e-disco, dard-e-disco

Thanks zoran009.
With the lyrics meanings clear, you sure enjoy the song a lot more.

When listening to the CD, when you come across a few important words that you don't understand, it looks like there are a lots of them in the album. But, when I read all the lyrics from Om Shanti Om, I didn't find any words in other songs that I didn't understand. May be, with these two minor exceptions where I think I know the meaning but may be not 100% clear:
Quote:
http://www.hindilyrix.com/songs/get_son ... aseen.html
shokhiyon mein dooobi yeh aadayein, chehre se jhalki hui hain
zulf ki ghani ghani ghatayein, shaan se dhalki hui hain
lehrata aachal hai jaise badal
bhaahon mein bhari hai jaise chandani, roop ki chandani
main agar kahoon yeh dilkashi, hai nahi kahin na hogi kabhi
tareef yeh bhi to sach hai kuch bhi nahi
tumko paya hai to jaise khoya hoon..

And, another famous word/ film-title, Fanaa ?? I've an idea but again, not 100% clear.

Thanks.

Hopefully my limited knowledge can come into play here. 'Fanaa' is the Sufi term for the destruction of the self. Though the person's body stays alive, he/she is completely unified with God. 'Moksha' and 'nirvana' are similar terms.

Thanks zoran009.

I would have thought Dilkash to mean something like arrow piercing into heart ??

Thanks zoran009 and Stephen.

Another word:

Takhhliyat

In the film Jodha Akbar the subtitles read "Disperse" .
Does it really mean "disperse" ??
I thought it meant "privacy" ??

yup! privacy( leave us alone). People thought JA had words went over head( I can understand) but imho, it was not high grade dialogs written for a period film of that erra/people.
e.g Chooti maan, badi maan or ammi was not worth a king dialogs, it should be AMMI HAZOOR!

Another amusing thing for JA, there were no akbar's NAU RATTANS( 9 HIGH RANKED WIZARDLY ADVISERS). besides whenever he is disgusted by any minister he sends them for piligrmage( to holly land" aap makka muazma challe jaen" lol.

While when he is disgusted with MAAYA MANGA( BADI AMMI) he decides not to see her face and not send her to mecca muazma! and then she is never seen there after.
