Other than Chak De India, this is the only Yashraj film I have enjoyed the last few years.
Problem is that it is too elitist, and therefore somewhat insulting to most viewers, myself included. On repeated viewing it's easy to note the writers think they're smarter than the average joe. Maybe they are, but you don't make hits, by talking down to your audience. Plus a bit too much overacting, French (badly accented at that) and sexuality for the diaspora. Odd that people don't mind semi-naked women or vulgar comedy on celluloid, but when a "romantic" film has characters repeatedly talking about prostitutes, promiscuity, etc, we are offended and shocked.
True, there is but a smidgeon of plot to this yarn, but it is a very fun episodic film. And Lara's Laila is too hot to trot.
Ten times better than the inane BNB by Shaad, the yawn-erific Love Legend Veer Zaara, and the atom bomb stupidity in the "drama" Fanaa.
Ali_ikram, you did hit the nail in the coffin! Fanna was cliched, it had huge curiosity value as come back of Kajol, I loved the music courtesy to beautiful arrangements by Salim Sulaiman of JL's ordinary tunes! It was too overrated! Aamir and Kajol had done way better!
BNB was a DUD if you ask me. I did like the music out side the film more than JBJ.
VZ..what can I say!! we are land of bhed chal, jerks!again I thought Amitab/Hema were too over board as usual, only character that I remembered in the end was Divya Dutta! Music? now well, Lata was at her worst imho!.too much cliched!
JBJ, if you watch it like 2.5 act musical, for absolutely charming act of Lara and see songs as part of the musical theater then you can only watch it once!
Rest! Vulgarity, soft and insinuating into family culture domain is the order of the day! YRF, JOHAR and every one else is on the same band wagon. Long gone are true family films imho. People seem to like, appreciate, patronize and ask for it more in name of vulgarity. I think, our next generation has to live with this in the name of comedy, sensitivity, sensuality and glamor!
