Let's keep in mind that Ram Gopal Varma has a bit of a history of conceding to mass/critical opinion. Pre-release, he's like a bubbly little ball of energetic enthusiasm; he can't shut up about how great everything is. When the film comes out, and doesn't do well, he suddenly sees all the ways in which he erred (which are quite in line with what people didn't like about the movie). It's fine to admit a mistake, but it's utterly cowardly to roll over and accept that everything everyone didn't like about your work is exactly, and only, what you did wrong with it.
Yes, I remember when James was made and the critics had their say, he was quick to point out that it was done wrong and that he was going to remake it with the same cast, the way it was intended to be made. What happened to that project? What's happening to his films? Nishabd had a limited release and I don't think Shiva was even released internationally at all. Ram Gopal Varma is in hiding after Aag, but he's going to have a hard time disowning this film, his name is in the title!
I'll tell you what happened to a friend had when trying to buy a ticket for Aag. The person selling him the ticket actually recommended he NOT go and see it. I was expecting it to not be very good, but it's rare when the finished product turns out worse than you could've possibly imagined. It is like a
spoof, if treated like a spoof probably people wouldn't have been so hard on it. I saw a TV-promo of Aag earlier, which showed the song between Ajay and Nisha, where she slapped him. Just that part alone brought back all the bad memories. I still don't know how the man who made Satya and Company, can make something so dreadful. Is he ever gonna recover from this? Or is this the end of RGV?
True! AAG is a parody, a spoof, no more no less... and a bad spoof at that.
