I thought the climax wasn't bad, but the film overall was very disappointing in my opinion ....

I posted my sorta-review on the film in the General Forum, under the MHN DVD discussion, but lemme just say that this film was the ultimate in ridiculous-movie fun... it's soo bad in some parts it's actually good, the way that cheesy action films like Desperado can be entertaining. It made me and my friends laugh hysterically in some scenes, altho those scenes prolly weren't intended to be funny in the first place! Like for instance...

SPOILERS BELOW

.....

.....

.....

.....

.....

...... the scene where SRK gets punched by Khan and it shows his backward momentum in slow-mo suddenly defy all the laws of physics so they can have him fall into a corpse-like pose, stiff as a board, in MID-AIR and then SLOWLY FLOAT DOWN IN A *PERFECT* VERTICAL DROP while holding that exact same pose, till he's lying on the floor. ROTFLMAO!!!! SOOO absurd! WTF was that??!? My friends and I almost died of laughter when we saw that

There were a few other scenes just as stupid and therefore funny, but I'm actually laughin so hard right now remembering that one scene that I can't remember! lol I'll post again when I can compose myself.

There is something seriously wrong when the most entertaining part of a movie is its end credits.

Oh yah! Forgot to mention that! That was really well-done and I'd love to see more directors do that, both in Bollywood and Hollywood. It was creative, inspired and artistic and gave each and every person who worked on the film a chance to appear on-screen. That's cool, and I liked it a lot.

SRK vertical floating-down thing? NOT cool.

I said as much in the other thread, in fact, and I did enjoy it in a time-pass kinda way, asif. It entertained me and I laughed at a lotta scenes. Only prob was that there were waaay too many cheesy scenes and I guess being a big movie buff like me (and all of you guys) who's seen it done much better in other films, it looked awful in comparison. If they'd toned down some of the more ridiculous FX and other crap like the slow-mo punch and falling-back shot (I don't think I'll ever get over that one lol), it woulda been a better movie.

I mean, those bullet-time effects do grab ya at the start cuz you're like "Hey, it's cool to see that in a Hindi film!" and it's halfway decent-looking, sure... but then ya get something like SRK flyin thru the air like Superman while shooting and somehow his tiny pistol has enough force to blow the DOOR off the goondas' car and send Khan sliding on it half a mile down the road! That totally ruins it and takes ya outta the scene cuz you're laughing so hard at it. The suspension of disbelief only goes so far, after all. If something's TOO stupid-looking it'll make ya disbelieve, that's for sure.

that's exactly the problem with me. I cannot help but think during every movie i watch, therefore, movies like mhn turn out to be cheesy. I agree, those SFX did ruin the movie to a certain extent, but i found many other scenes that they could have done without ( like the whole college thing, with teachers doing weird things) but i guess some people do find it funny, since the movie is a hit. But, I admit that I did laugh when srk was singing to sushmita, lol.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS ( don't read ahead if u haven't seen the movie)

the stuff that I didn't like was how no one could recognize raghvan when he entered the college, especially srk. I mean he is a military officer, and raghvan is a terrorist, and i'm sure everyone knows how he should look like. And, even his name was Raghav. And, speaking of shetty, he is portrayed kind of like a villain we usually see in a kids movie.

And, what is up with sushmita's hair being blow-dryed every time she comes on screen.

I love that song "main hoon na" (sad version). It has some deep meaning. But in the movie its picturized when srk is leaving that stupid college. I mean they could've made the movie at least little bit more serious.

I can go on and on, but i know many people enjoyed the movie, so no offense.

So yea it is ok if u have nothing to do for 3 hrs. its only for entertainment, if u actually find this stuff funny.

I think it is very sad that movies like this are superhits, and good movies like EHT, Maqbool, pinjar, dev go unnoticed.

i think you guys and girls are taking the movie too seriously. i hope no one making this movie thought that they were making something groundbreaking and novel. i think they knew the action/matrix-ness was cheesy, but gloried in the cheesiness of it. this wasn't meant to be an airtight thriller which screwed with your mind; it was pure mindless entertainment (at least i HOPE that's what they were aiming for...).

Yah yah, we know it was meant strictly as timepass, entertaining fluff filmmaking. My prob is that even the cheesy bits got TOO cheesy in the long run, and the dramatic scenes lost their power when ya consider that everything was so unbelievable, you couldn't feel for the characters as much as you woulda liked to. In short, one big problem was that Farah couldn't decide if she was making mindless mass-market entertainment or a serious family-drama/action film. It was too much a mish-mash of all the above.

But like I've said twice already, I LIKED it. In that senseless kinda way. There are certain aspects of it that are beautiful to look at (the songs, dances, Sush and Amrita, SRK), and certain parts that make me giggle so hard my stomach hurts.

And did anyone read the review by this moron over at PlanetBollywood.com who praised SRK's performance as being "restrained" and said it was one of his career's best performances???! Is he retarded or what?? :?

Rakhi Sawant didn't wear this dress in the film nor could she have attended the function in this dress. Or, did she??
If not, what's the logic of this shot at indiafm??

You underestimate how much of a skank she is; she did wear this at the event.
