Hi Guys Here are some dvds which have given me problems please reply if they have given you guys the same problems
DEEWAANAPAN(video sound) doesnt work after chapter 15
RHTDM(video sound) doesnt work after interval
STYLE(SPARK/SOVEN) doesnt work after chapter 8
Pitaah(SPARK/SOVEN) film works but keeps on freezing
Abhay(DEI) doesnt work after the zingoria song
Bawandar(eros) last hr dont work
Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai(eros) last 5 minutes keeps on freezing
Tum Bin(video sound)
Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai(video sound) after chap15 dont work

Although I didn’t have a problem with playing Abhay(DEI) on my DVD players, a friend who borrowed the same disc has major problems playing it. He said it kept on stopping and skipping at the point where they find the dairy.

Unfortunately this is the direction most Indian DVDs have headed. They've started using the cheapest media (silver DVDs) possible to replicate discs - and they are not lasting a few playbacks and giving major problems on certain payers.

I recently bought the Dumm Dumm Dumm DVD (Tamil flick). Its an official Aynagran release, but after Chapter 15 (Krishna song), the DVD crashes and my player altogether freezes up!

After trying on several players with the same result, I returned the disc to Aynagran and they aknowledged that not only my disc, but most probably nearly all the DDD DVDs may have this fault. They have agreed to refund my money!

So beware.... even original DVDs can be faulty!!!

Ironically last few pirate DVDs I’ve seen and some from really shitty companies like Baba have been on more reliable gold discs that don’t seem to give problem as these silvers discs being used by ‘official’ companies. Work that one out.

Ali, you maybe able to answer this one. What are the processes involved in releasing an Infian film on DVD? I want try my hand at this. I want to release only one film (classic oldie) in a 2-disc superbit set. I am serious.

Thank god, i have not had any problems with any discs on my pioneer 515 but have heard that there are some playback problems on my new pioneer 545 i.e. Jeepers Creepers!! As for the cheap discs companies are usings, is really sad!! Just shows what crap we are getting thrown at us... i just feel like a proper mug buying all these third rate products!!

have u got the financial backing to do this!! i remember there was a time on the old forums i suggested such a move, but when we worked it out it came in to £10,000 just to deliver the disc!! but if u ahve such financial backing please try and get the rights to a decent movie like Mahaan, Yeh Vaada Raha, Betaab or even Naseeb!!

Yes, I have £6,000 saved that I always wanted to pump into a project like this.

Gone OT (Sorry Sanjay Singh) but; I think the biggest problem doing an Indian DVD is getting a proper good master print to use for the DVD. You have to have the connections to get this kind of stuff. Basic process is

get very good film print
make a top quality hi-res telecine (very costly this)
then get a DVD mastered from this telecine

..getting the film rights for DVD is dodgy part. Most Indian DVD released don’t have them - I'm not even sure such separate entity as DVD rights are even sold for Indian films (bar a few select exceptions). Producers just make deal with distributors to own the film really and then distributors milk the film any which way they can.

For £6000 you could possibly make a decent DVD master; but also have to consider the replication and distribution costs and £6000 is not going to cover that. Talk to Jolly about it – he’ll give you more info on this sort of stuff. But also be very wary – this business is full of con artists and back stabbers – no ones ever tells the truth. So don’t apart with money unless you 100% a deal is there.

I would love to see someone independent go in make special Indian DVD. You’re approach is probably right – get a classic that’s not been released on DVD and get others to back it. Bit I'm sure you'll find its easier said than done!

Rahisha, I had a similar problem with Dumm Dumm Dumm. In my case though, my Panasonic froze up, but when I skipped to the next chapter, it worked fine and played very well till the end. In fact, I had the same problem with Surya's Chandralekha as well. However, I was able to play both of these without any problems on my friend's NEC DVD-ROM drive. I'm thinking that it might be a problem with layer change.

Just reading Sanjays post about gold/silver media reminded me of this thread and problems with Abhay DVD. I re-checked the DVD and tried to play it back from the problem areas a friend had mentioned. The film continuously broke up, froze and skipped frames. This is the same Abhay DVD I have watched earlier in the same player twice before. They are no scratches or any marks on the disc surface at all. This is absolutely appalling as discs should not last just a few playbacks. Obviously DEI thinks otherwise, no wonder they fabricate bogus stories about silver media :rolleyes:

May be we should all write to DEI and tell them this kind of DVD is not acceptable. If there are enough of us complaining just to one company then they might listen and will understand that the DVD fans are not all stupid.

Mission Bollywood had problems in lot of old DVD Players. I replaced my old Toshiba model with Pioneer 300-DVD Changer and never had any problems.

I buy and rent only original DVDs and therefore have to suffer losses due to bad Hindi DVDs which stop working after only 4 - 5 rentals. Someone else I know rents out only pirated Hindi DVDs and guess what, he has no problems renting most of the pirated DVDs for even over 50 times. Makes me feel like such a fool, since not only does he get the pirated DVD before I get my original, I also pay 3 to 4 times more than what he pays for the pirated DVD and his DVDs last him like any other English DVD, while mine go bad in just a couple of rentals. Makes me so damn frustrated, because it's just not in me to deal in pirated stuff, but at the same time I feel so cheated by the original DVDs. I have actually stopped keeping Video Sound releases (since they are the worst) and politely told my members that I am sorry but I can no longer continue to keep replacing multiple copies of the same film when I can't even rent them enough times to recover my costs.
Shame on you DEI for pretending like there is nothing wrong with using Silver media, and worse of all to actually claim that they have no control over what kind of media is used. Shame on you DEI, because DEI was one company I still had some faith left in. But I guess they are going the Eros & Video Sound way too. Yashraj Films DVDs are actually the best in this regard, I'm sure it has somethign to do with the fact that they use Gold media.

Jeepers Creepers definately has a problem with atleast some Pioneer players. One model I can confirm that has a problem with Jeepers Creepers is the Pioneer DV533K.
