Wow! Those screenshots look amazing. Heck if this is bad quality, then someone please make sure all future Indian BDs are of this same 'bad' quality.

Sunny, first of all thanks for doing such a great job of releasing Tamil movies in blu-ray. Could you please tell me what other movies going to be released soon in blu-ray?

If I know what is going to be released in blu-ray, I will wait for that and don't buy the DVD. Now I already have two versions of Shivaji dvd (Sruthilayam & Ayngaran), Pokkiri, Ayan and Villu Ayngaran DVDs. So I didn't buy the blu-ray. I have only Billa on Blu-ray. If you release Kandukodian Kandukodian & Alai Pauthey on blu-ray, I will certainly buy that.

I didn't like Kandasamy, but If you release it in blu-ray, I may buy that, just for songs.

Did Sivaji go through a 4K DI?

BTW, the details in those shots from Ayan is amazing! Since Eros owns Ayngaran, they should use the same people to author their BRs.

It would really be great if Sunny could advise Eros at least on the BluRay authoring even if he doesnt do it himself, or at least get them on the right track. If we could also work on them it would be perfect. I really love the work that Sunny has done on all the Tamil BluRay.

@Sunny what is your opinion about restoring the old films in the US, something akin to what was done for Satyajit Ray movies. True they were more of classics, but couldnt such work be done on to a few major blockbusters like Talapathi, Agni Natchathiram etc. I surely would buy these BluRays if they ever come out.

Sunny - You're absolutely right on the LPCM soundtrack on Ayan.... the lows are definitely tight. I am loving my KEF 3005 SE and Denon combo. Definitely, this BD is giving my speakers a work out. I like the DTS HD MA better because of more surround presence.

When I play the special features on Ayan BD, there is no video but only audio. Anybody encountering the same problem.....

Why is there a difference? It should be bit for bit identical.

Can't say what the reason might be in this particular case. But you are right in theory they both should be same, but it is not so in practical use. There are titles that I have where the LPCM track quite clearly sounds different from the HD audio track, be it Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master Audio. Also, case in point are the two different versions of the 'Casino Royale' disc. The original release has a LPCM track whereas the Collector's Edition has a Dolby TrueHD track and they do sound quite different although as per Sony they have used the same Audio and Video master for the two releases.

Sunny - Please include DTS HD MA on all future Tamil BD releases. I was experimenting the DTS HD MA over LPCM. For example when I play the song, "Oo Aayiye Aayiye", the excellent drum beats is very much muted in LPCM, but heavily amplified in the DTS HD MA. I read somewhere that DTS will occasionally master some of their tracks a little hot, and almost all of them are 4dB louder than the original master. Excellent integration, openness and detail. I love the DTS HD MA on this BD, stellar reference quality. Keep up the good work man. The video could have been better, I like the bolder saturated looks of Sivaji, just a personal preference I guess. Nevertheless, excellent AQ. Anyone with a great Home Theater, definitely will have to watch this movie on DTS HD MA. You will hear a smooth, cohesive sound, with excellent integration, openness and detail. The more I hear, the more excellent my KEF 3005SE's sound.

Once more, PCM and lossless DTS sound the same unless different masters/mixes are used, which has not got anything to do with the format. Prefering one over the other makes no technical sense (except that PCM wastes bandwidth and storage space).

Guess you gotto listen to hear the difference. Trust me, in my opinion, DTS HD MA is a lot more hotter than PCM at least on Ayan BD.

That may be but it's not because one is PCM and the other DTS. That's a coincidence, not the cause.

First of all, let me thank you Sunny for the stellar work you have been doing with the Tamil Blu-rays. I have Sivaji, Ayan, Pokkiri and Billa on Blu-ray. The only tamil movie that I don't have on Blu-ray (which has been available on Blu-ray) is 'Villu' (the movie was so..o.. bad that even the Blu-ray couldn't entice me to make the purchase). I have to say that 'Sivaji' has been the best release so far and 'Billa' is probably the worst in terms of picture quality (though only in comparison to 'Sivaji'). I was ecstatic when I saw your earlier post saying that 'Kandaswamy' will be out on Blu-ray. I think that the movie was only average (at best), but the songs were awesome. Also, because of how stylishly the movie was shot, I remember thinking even when I was watching the movie, that it was gonna be a 'Must-buy' on blu-ray. The only thing I was afraid of, was the fact that you had previously mentioned - How many Tamil customers are there for Blu-rays? I was hoping against hope that the 'Kandaswamy' Blu-ray release wouldn't be delayed or canceled, secondary to weak demand from Tamil movie-watchers. Thankfully, 'Kandaswamy' looks like it'll make it to Blu-ray soon. Do you have any tentative date-ranges when the 'Kandaswamy' and 'Kuruvi' Blu-rays are going to be out? Obviously, I am not going to hold you accountable for any kind of unforeseen delays or administrative decisions. Any information that you can provide in this regard would be greatly appreciated. I am eagerly looking forward to buying these titles on the Blu-ray format ( I am in the U.S., but I buy from the Ayngaran UK website and have it delivered in the U.S.). Thanks for your comments. Kandaswamy will be a late November release. It will be an intresting title to see on HD as its an Indian film which really has some vivid colours and imagery. All the scenes shot in Mexico look very rough and brown, while songs are highly saturated colours and high contasts. It was challenge to ensure the DI colours was replicated onto the blu-ray to the last detail. Kuruvi will also very soon (just trying to work out a release date as I am pressed on other projects - with Disney, BBC & Warner Germany).

It's technically not possible since HD has a limited color gamut relative to DI data. One can only try to find a good approximation that works well.
