well...it doesnt say much about the dvd..but its something in the right direction..
*****Sanjay Leela's Devdas, the first Bollywood picture to screen in Official Competition, has been picked up by Focus International, the newly formed US distribution and sales company that is a division of Vivendi Universal. The company, which has merged former indie production and sales company Good Machine and US distributor USA Films, is making its first visit to Cannes under its new banner. Focus is expected to be a major player in the coming months, with an acquisitions treasure chest provided by corporate parent Universal Pictures.***

YESS!!!!! There is a GOD.
I am speechless! I mean, ever since I saw the first glimps of SLBs Devdas. I knew that this is one film that definitely deserves a quality treatement onto DVD, but since Bharat Shah's name was attached to the film as its financer, most fingures were pointing to an Evil Eros DVD release. But, this is perhaps the best DVD news since Columbia TriStar doing the M:K DVD. HOWEVER, the only thing which makes me a bit skeptical about this wonderful news is that, it states that Devdas is Bollywood's first official film to be featured at the Cannes Competition section. Which isn't true! Though, I feel this could be a minor error on there part, because such a news can not be false info, especially since the source is coming from the Cannes Market News anyways.

It's cool that an American company have picked up the rights to the film but what about the UK's distribution. Are Eros still doing it and if so that means their doing the dvd? :ffs: :vangry: :bangbang:

I was already thinking of importing it but there probably will be a longer delay between the cinematic release and the dvd in america when the USA distributors get around to it.

Now we can expect a really decent disk. Any chance of contacting the company and ask what they have in store 4 Devdas

Good point. I'm ecstatic about the prospect of a mainstream (or at least art house) release: no hour trek to Naz Cinema! But I've gotten spoiled by the next-day availability of the DVD. Best of both worlds: rent your Eros on June 29th; buy your Focus Int'l (or whatever) DVD when it comes out in December.

(Example: Amelie still isn't out on DVD yet, is it?)

Sorry, one more thing: aren't there legal implications if another DVD company tries to take the release away from Eros? I'd think that if Devdas is indeed getting wider cinemtic release, Eros would fight tooth and nail to keep the DVD rights. :keh:

...Just a little pessimism for ya.

I would assume that since they're handling business in America that they also have rights to DVD distribution in America.
