Now thats what I call a sense of Déja Vu ! Its been ages since NAUSHAD composed music (the last being the pathetic film- Guddu) !

Looking at the starcast this surely looks like an interesting film !... whether it can have the same effect as the original Taj Mahal ( Pradeep Kumar-Bina Rai..Jo Vaada Kiya Woh Nibhana Padega and the lousy DVD by VIDEOSOUND :vangry: ), only time will tell !

I think Naushad doing the music for the film is a BIG blunder. None of the yesteryear music directors have ever been able to make a mark upon their return. As for Naushad this would be his third attempt at a comeback after 'Dharam Kanta' & 'Guddu'. By the way 'Guddu' was his own son's film and if the quality of his music for that is anything to go by, then god save Taj Mahal.

I think Naushad is a legend. He did 'Guddu' which was a disapointment, but the film was worst. Shahrukh, Manisha and director Prem Lalwani ought to be ashamed of creating such a dud! As for Naushad, you can't realy blame him if the film was so un-inspiring. BTW, 'Guddu' was not his son's film.

He also gave music to 2 other films in those days, 'Awaaz De Kahan Hai' (Avinash Wadhawan and Shika Swaroop) and 'Teri Payal Mere Geet' (Govinda and Meenakshi). The later was directed by Rehman Naushad, his son. I think the music for both this films are next to great. Just listen to Lata's, 'Kya Kahen...' and S.P Bala's, 'Tumse Ek Aarz Hai...' and you will, I am sure re-think! Naushad is one of the last great composers, Indain cinema have. Its great to see that he still has the energy to compose music.

You know folks why Naushad's music cant make that mark ( or for that matter O.P.Nayyar also)..the reason being one main ingredient isnt available in their music and that is a person....sorry a legend by the name of Late. Mohammed RAFI.
Rafi and Naushad was like Sugar in Milk. Remove the Sugar, the taste oft he milk automatically goes away. Remember how pathetic OP Nayyars music was in Nischay when he had Amit Kumar sing those songs....
Both these music directors thrived on Md.Rafi for their sustenance, added to that Lata "Bai" isnt as young as she was when Naushad composed his gems !
I frankly Love Naushad for his gems he composed for BAIJU BAWRA...and MUGHAL-e-AZAM .... ("O Duniya ke Rakhwale ..sun dard bhare mere naale.."I dont think anyone could have sung that song more effectively than RAFI..)

My suggestion folks why this film might just make it and why it will be different from Guddu is that , TAJ MAHAL will have more of a classical overture and not some modern Funy beats ("Dil hai pyare zara dekh toh le , maal hai pyare zara dekh toh le")

Right on!Nath bhaiya!! Gharwali is apni Akbar wali, aur Bahir wali is of course Bharat baala wali! Lagta hai Ghar wali hee anjam ko pohnche gee!!

Naushad..The maestro..just saw DEI's pathetic dvd KOHINOOR!! Man! just listen to Naushad's music, each composition is better than the other!
Alas! Rafi is no more!! and Lata can not sing like before IMHO!!(she is good for bhajans or composers like Rehman etc who know how to use her voice at this AGE!! remember, jiya jale, khamoshiya gungunane lageen and Zubaida!! just superb!)
I think Naushad will be aware of that and if uses her he will use it to her best!!

Now why!! the old music directors dont appeal to today's listeners..man! waqt waqt ki baat hai!! WAQT bohat aage nikal gaya hai!! aur listening preference aur trends bhi!! These days we like Aankhen AKS and PIAM..techno wizardry, N-S rehased melodies and J-L stale stuff and not to say Anu's brilliant efforts to match up on following Rehman's steps!! POOR NAUSHAD..will he stand a chance?

But again with TAJ MAHAL..creating feling of ERA had been successfully done lately by Rehman for Zubaida and Lagaan...
I wish ALL THE BEST to MUSIC MAESTRO AND LEGENDARY NAUSHAD SAHAB!! LONG LIVE!!

As far as I recall, this film (Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal) did release, for a brief period, in 2005 and did not do well. Akbar Khan blamed it on bad distribution and quickly recalled the film, planning a grand release himself that hasn't materialized so far. (It was an expensive film).
Looks like, Akbar Khan did get hold of all the film prints and it's pirate video just doesn't exist. Hopefully, Akbar Khan will release it one day.

Pakistani actress Sonya Jehan, Grand-daughter of famous Pakistani singer and actress Noor Jehan was in the role of Arjumand Bano / Mumtaz Mahal. Anyone who saw her publicirty shots from the film is mesmerized her beauty.

BTW, as per imdb, Sonya Jehan was in Khoya Khoya Chand and also has a role in SRK's forthcoming big film My Name Is Khan.

One thing I have not heard-COMPETITION-In the good old days there was no competition.Lata killed them all.She made a big deal about not singing with Rafi when her gripe was with Shanker Jaikishen because they were molding Sharda.
Can Naushad make a comeback-Maybe he can but needs to team up with one of the current music maestro of today.eg AR Rahman
