I was just going to open this in the movies section. I saw it today and I loved it. Proberly the most heart breaking film I have seen in a long time. I cry in very few films like Masoom, Kaash, Maachis, Ghatak (and the list goes on) the last film I cried in was Taare Zameen Par and now Heroes.

All the performances are wonderful infact its hard to pick just on performance to compliment on. Salman, Preity, Mithun and Sunny's performance stand out more and the rest like Sohail Khan (WOW! I never knew he was such a good performer), Vatsal Seth and Bobby are really good too.

Its a simple story which can be told within 5 seconds. But its the way the director shows it which is simple superb! Some scenes just touch your heart!

Rating: 4.5 out 5 (could possibly even be 5)

One of the best this year!

Heroes made it to theatre in Ottawa (Rainbows) while biggies like Karzz and Roadside Romeo have been absent here.
I'll see it during the week.

I saw this last night, and I liked it quite a bit. The first 15-20 mins were annoying, but the film really kicks off when the road trip begins. The Salman-Preity episode was by far the best, as Sengh said, if only the others were as good. Was that Sunny Deol tile breaking fight really necessary?!?!

As Sengh said, some of the scenes in the film are really well done - the two that spring to mind at the moment are when the letter is being read out to Preity, and when Mithun breaks down in front of the photo. Well worth a watch, at least once.

Ok, I watched it based on all these recommendations. I'm probably the only voice of dissent so far, as I thought it was a little better than ok. Watchable, yes, thanks to great cinematography, and quite entertaining in parts. But compared to Rang De Basanti, which was similar in its intent, this one often borders on vapidity. Many of Sunny's scenes bordered on the ridiculous, and I felt like I had been time-warped into his hits of the 90s during that shameful fight at the bar/pub.

Preity was great (though better in Heaven on Earth, which also just released at cinemas, for those of you who live in Canada) as were Mithun, Sohail, Vatsal and the lady portraying Dino's mom. But great performances don't make up for a mediocre screenplay.

Salman was no great shakes. His Punjabi accent needs major work, though I do think he got the military personnel persona down pat. And I'm thankful he didn't take off his shirt.

I'd watch it in cinemas, but don't go in expecting brilliance. 6.5/10

I personally rate HEROES as an experience that's more engaging and more entertaining than RANG DE BASANTI, the latter tends to be boring and loses script-sense in the overdone back-and-forth references to the freedom movement. RDB also tends to force some parallels between then and now, and in that it is more of a "let's find means to this end", if you know what I mean.

RDB's biggest misfit was Aamir Khan, ironically, also the reason for the movie's mass appeal ;-) His punjabi was as bad as Salman's in Heroes ;-)

HEROES -- IMO -- is a far better experience than RDB. One "Sunny-Deol-in-Bar" sequence doesn't take away the charm from the film... and Sunny being Sunny, it was more or less accepted that something like that would be in the movie :-)

You're right - the scene with Dino's recording gave me goosebumps!! I actually thought the Mithun-Dino story was better than the Sunny-Bobby one. The scene with Salman's son saluting the uniform, and the follow up with Preity talking to it was very well done too - in fact the whole Salman-Preity episode was outstanding, and Mannata is quickly becoming one of my favourite songs of the moment.

The thing about the Dino scene is that Sohail cries and not Vatsal. Thats why I cried. I never though Sohail would shed a tear in the whole film.

The Sunny and Bobby story was good too. I liked the way the director tried to show Sunny as a madcap after his brother's death and how it changed his mind, but Sunny keeps on trying to cover it up, excellence!

Mannata and Makhana. Both my current favourites :)

i saw it on sat nite aswell and well loved it. quite simply the best hindi film this year... if not the most entertaining (Race takes that one). i loved the fact that they kept the movie humourous despite the heavy subject matter. Sohail Khan is really coming into his own as an actor and might even surpass Salman Khan one day (witness his role in HELLO aswell).

for me, I liked the last story the best aswell, infact i just liked them all and Sunny Deol was really believable. I have a younger brother aswell and my life would be destroyed if something were to happen to him. Sunny's way of coping with his grief was very justifiable and if you though he was too loud then seriously u missed the point. I have 3 equally fave scenes in the movie - one is where sunny stops the car to go outside, chase after the planes and salute them (that scene - the passion that a soldier feels for his country - is what this movie is all about). Then following 2 scenes, one where Sohail Khan cries at Dino's tape and then the final speech by Mithun.

Seriously, excellent performances all around, this movie is much much MUCH better than RDB.

If anything, I think this is sunny deol's best role since Damini/Ghayal and he should definately be rewarded for Best Actor this year at the awards season. Also, this is definately Mithun's finest hindi-language performance (not counting his far superior work in Bengali cinema) and he should def be getting supporting actor awards next year aswell.

Go watch this movie, you'll be really glad you did!
