KARZ ... is ... REBORN as ---- KARZZZZ

T-Series have purchased rights from Subhash Ghai to remake KARZ with Himesh Reshammiya in the lead role!! (Though the guy in the pic below doesn't look like HR...?)

Satish Kaushik will direct, music of course will be by Himesh Reshammiya, the "setting" would be "abroad"

A... aa... aaayegi... remake ;-)

Footnote. Karz itself was adapted from "Reincarnation Of Peter Proud"

kkkkkarz the reeeeeeemake ;-)

Subhash Ghai's text message indicates he doesn't want to remake his own films:
Quote:
“How can I remake my own scripts, when I am looking ahead at newer ideas? But, I am sure, the remake of KARZ will be welcomed by the present-day generation and I wish luck to Bhushan and Himesh.”

The first thing these remake directors need to really do is to pay obeisance to Laxmikant and Pyarelal. Just like we saw with Shah Rukh Khan's [Images] take on Don, the most memorable thing about Himesh Reshammiya's take on Karz is the theme tune recycled from the original.

Outside of that, it's all filler.

Director Satish Kaushik's half-baked attempt to adapt Subhash Ghai's [Images] much-revered reincarnation thriller, gives us a long-winded and rather exhausting watch. The plot is essentially replicated, but ironically the film is dumbed down -- as if audiences of today aren't as savvy as they were a couple of decades ago. Add to that a horribly cardboard Urmila Matondkar [Images] and an inconsequential Shweta Kumar in leading roles that required actual actresses.

The only performer in the film is Danny Dengzongpa, the perpetually in-form veteran playing a deftly comic character who encyclopaedically references Bollywood quotes, going as far as to quote Himesh's last hit -- possibly the only gag in the film that doesn't fall flat.

And what of the leading man? Well, he's surprisingly watchable. Reshammiya has clearly given this film his all, and despite a more than evident lack of natural thespian talent, deserves an A for effort. There is a naive earnestness to him, as if he truly believes in the characters and the outlandish story. More importantly, so obvious is his glee at being able to live his dreams -- of playing a rockstar who makes women faint -- that his sheer enthusiasm, even if misguided, is infectious enough to make you like him.

Yet while Himesh the 'actor' manages to do tolerably, the same can't be said for the composer. This is a film positively laden with songs, and -- save for the classic Ek Hasina Thi track from the old film -- they're all completely forgettable. As a result the film drags on and on, at least a good forty minutes longer than it should, and we don't even have anything dancefloor-worthy to show for it? Sigh. Perhaps the earworms lived in the now-discarded baseball caps.

Very few remakes can justify their existence. While not objectionably bad, Karzzzz is a completely unnecessary production, and all it can justify is the Zs in the title.

Rediff Rating: 1.5/5

Imho, orig Karz fails to stand time test and is NO CLASSIC either, just a formula, that worked at that time.
OSO, was just overbearing mixture of Karz/Madhumati, going no where!

I agree - after watching OSO I dug out my DVD of Karz. What was a popular film when it was released was kind of boring watching it now. I didn't even really get in to the songs and found them kind of annoying.

After a couple of days I re-watched Madhumati - now that is one film that is a real classic and I would hate to see it re-made as I really don't think it would work.

First of all Raja Sen is an A*****e (with a captial A). !

Secondly, one should go and watch this movie for Urmilla (no comparisons with Simi Grewal).

And lastly....Tandori Nights rockz !!!! (The Bangalore RJ's have some funny twists for that song).

i saw this lastnite... really enjoyable... notthe best of movies and no way near the best indian movie this year
but Himesh decent, songs were good, urmila were vampy and the movie wasn't CHEEZE

i know, not exactly the best of things to rate the movie against but i liked it...

now i'm going to watch the original tonite and seehow it holds up

*******

side topic but i saw a korean love story yesterday and it did end up being related to the same theme as Karz
Do me a favor and go see

BUNGEE JUMPING ON THEIR OWN

to those who've seen it...any comments??

to those who haven't seen it, just go and watch it without reading any reviews. If you are closed minded, then u will want to shut the movie off once you see where its going, but don't. just watch it all the way through. It's a slow love story, no love scenes, no major dialogues and very dramatic, but it is not boring, it has the same theme as Karz and has a really powerful ending....

and yes u probably won't find it for sale so just download it... google it.. here's a hint:

and people lets talk about karz aswell...

how is this compared to himesh's last movie...
i thought himesh is now coming into his own as a front bencher actor (no Aamir Khan by far hahha..not even akshay... actually not even saif... actually not even salman.... )....

the songs, i liked the lut gaya song, the hari om song and eventhe ek hasina thi song.teh cinematography was good and it had the same abrupt ending which are found in most satish kaushik's movies

as far as kaushik's movies go, this is WAY WAY WAY below his best movie which i think is Tere Naam. His 2nd fav movie of mine is Prem. and this one u guys would hate, but i actually like Roop Ki Raani, Choron Ka Raaja. I can't rmr his other movies other than Badhai Ho Badhai and that Tushar/Kareena movie...

oh btw i love the original Karz so as a remake, this was totally unnecessary and is no means any where the level of the original...
