Honestly I have only used the calibration tools included in, dont laugh now, movies like Terminator 2 or The Lion King. I cant seem to find Calibration videos in the video store. I have another video store close to me so tonight on my way home I will check them out.

Need someones help quick ..

HDMI single connection connected to my PS3 .. we watching a flick and the audio all of a sudden died. We changed the HDMI cables twice, unplugged the tv for a bit replugged it back, fiddled with the HDMI connection nothing. Prior to this the HDMI connection picture flicked on and off for which a tech came out and changed the main board (its an all in one apparently :? ). Does it look like a faulty HDMI connector again? I connected a laptop via HDMI and initially it gave audio but distorted now it has also died.

I have a tech coming by tonight to look at it and dont want to look stupid if its my stupidity, but if its not me and its the HDMI connector then store extended warranty will be swapping the tv for another one of my choice within the same price point ($2000) or I can put more $$$$ for something else.

Well tech was around he said it could be a hardware problem :D OR a software issue :( If software then he will do it and the store will approve it since it doesnt cost anything. I am keeping my fingers crossed its not a software issue ..

Upgrade to a Panasonic Plasma, the plasma picture quality is better than Lcd. It's almost impossible to compare TVs at your local B & M store due to lighting issues and the factory settings that the TV are being displayed in.

Hahaha. are you kidding? It's impossible to compare TVs at retail stores. I went into a store looking at TV's, and I've heard good things about Syntax Olevia. They were right next to the Sony Bravias. Being the curious person that I am, I nudged the TV's to see what kind of connections were being fed into the TV's. The Olevia had a coaxial connection meanwhile the Sony had either component or HDMI feeds.

my point is, there is a lot more than factory settings. they'll do anything to make you buy a more expensive TV.

Good luck UL Bhayya

You are correct, the best thing to do is research and read reviews on the internet!! I know when I bought my Panasonic Plasma, the picture in the store did not impress me but all the reviews I read about the TV said that it had a very good picture. Once I got it home, the picture was very good. Then I had it ISF calibrated and that took the picture quality to another level!

Thanks all .. right now I am just worried and hoping the tech wont say its a software issue of the tv and attempt to fix it that way .. I am really hoping its a hardward issue since if it is it will be the third time and the stores extended warranty says third time a replacement of the board results in a tv replacement. Keep your fingers crossed for me folks! :D I will update you next week ..

.. btw I am looking for something 50" 1080p .. whats with the new 120mhz thingy? Any idea? I just noticed this for the first time with stores advertising this.

UL - did you use an upscaling DVD player when playing DVDs on your new TV?

Looks like a nice TV ... I have a plasma but I have heard that LCDs are looking much better than plasma now ... is that true?

No. Never saw an LCD that looked good to me. They all have this horrible digital look, especially with low quality SD sources. Absolutely hideous. Most smear due to slow response times. Contrast is bad with gray blacks. Colors are overdone. etc.
Ok, they got better the last couple of years and there are decent professional models (with huge price tags), but the consumer models just don't cut it for me. I'll take a Pioneer Kuro plasma any day over the best LCDs. They are not cheap, of course. I'm waiting for OLED. But if I'd buy today it would be a Kuro plasma in 1080p.

LCD are on the way up, Plasmas are at their peek, heading out! So, either wait? if you can?or pick a soon to be obsolete technology!

Imho, LCD is the order of the day!

I totally agree with you mike. LCD has its shortcomings, while plasma even being peak lacks brightness and kind of give smeared look too.

Whats with the new 120mhz technology? I was looking at this tv:

Sony Bravia 52" 1080p LCD HDTV** (KDL52W4100) with 120mhz refresh rate:

Is it important and worth the extra money? In some cases an extra $800 - $1000? :?

That's a GREAT SET! Good size too! 120Hz is advisable especially to watch fast action.

Unfortunately to get to Sony you have to pay about 20% or so over the competitors :(

But let me tell you, you will be happy for long time!
