Why could they not put the uncut version on DVD ??!! The movie had its moments inspite of everything. The locales were certainly exquisite and some of the scenes with Gerson da Cunha (Asoka's father) did cry out for more footage which I am sure is there in the uncut version....

Five hours long is pushing it for a DVD – no ones ventured into splitting an Indian film across multiple DVDs yet.

It had to be on Star TV of all channels – that’s the only one I don’t subscribe to! :oh:

Lucky you. At least you get it in the UK. I wish they had it on offer here in the US. I would certainly go for it.

Can some body tape it/ record on tivo/pvr and burn it?? and make a vcd..good quality, may be 10 disc??
IMHO, scenes with dad, brothers and involvment in BUDHISM needed more footage and emphasis!!
I think Ranjeet as ASOKA's brother was more presentable and Authentic as prince/king..persona too!!

You meant Ajith right ?? BTW does anyone remember who dubbed for him in the Hindi version, and does the DVD have the Tamil version?

Its actually Ajith himself who speaks in Hindi :) Shame he wasn't picked up for a solo project in Hindi cinema, even though there are rumours of a Dheena remake in Hindi, which he exceled in.

Now thats impressive ! i did like his performance in 'Kandukondian, Kandukondian' too. now thats a flick that most people need to see regardless of whether they understand the language or not(i do not). thanks to some good albeit grammatically incorrect subtitling, it really brings out the flavour of the proceedings. Will check out Dheena as well.

Thanks for CORRECTING me Aarkayne !!

Yes!! I indeed meant, AJEET, not Ranjeet, sorry, for TYPO!! IMO he was great in that ROLE!! and would love to see some extra footage, mean more of him in ASOKA!!

Agree with u on 'Kandukondian, Kandukondian' I dont know any thing of Tamil, but besides that, I really enjoyed that film, I'll highly recomend this flick to every body,!! Did'nt Ayangran disc had english sub titles,? sound and picture was pretty good!! ;)

Today I saw the DVD and VHS of "Asoka" for rent on the new release wall of Blockbuster Video. I don't know if the VHS was letterboxed but it did have English subtitles. Odd that they didn't have Lagaan there, which was distributed by Sony.

No one dubbed for him. He knows Hindi quite well, as I recall reading in an interview.

The Blockbuster video store near my home had both Lagaan & Asoka DVDs side by side on the shelves. And I only saw two rental copies of each film available, I never saw any of the VHS copies.

Phew ! Thats a cool 10 crores and certainly not a bad deal at the end of the day. Didnt Asoka cost 7 crores to make and a major portion of that should have already been recovered when it was theatrically released earlier.
