in either case, the quality of the dvd is good and well looks much better than my eros dvds and some of my R1 stuff dvd, upconverted on my 1080p LCD.

PS3 firmware v2.30 walkthrough: DTS-HD MA support / new PS Store included

by Darren Murph, posted Apr 10th 2008 at 11:12AM

Oh sweet mercy, what have we here? A sneak peek (on video) of the looming PlayStation Store revamp and a confirmation of DTS-HD Master Audio output in the next PS3 firmware update, that's what. Over on the PlayStation Blog, we're casually walked through the impending v2.30 update, and just as we had heard, Blu-ray fans can shout in unison as the inclusion of their favorite audio codec (as well as DTS-HD High Resolution Audio) is just days away. Word on the street has v2.30 headed down the pipes on April 15th, and if you're eager to catch a glimpse of some more stills from the made-over PS Store, head on over to Joystiq.

Universal Releases Blu-ray Plans
Posted April 17, 2008 08:12 AM by Josh

Universal Studios Universal Studios Home Entertainment has released their plans for shifting their high definition focus from the defunct HD DVD format to Blu-ray. Beginning in July, Universal plans to release all new home video releases on Blu-ray day-and-date with their DVD releases. The first title receiving such treatment will be the Neil Marshall film 'Doomsday'.

That title will be followed by a slew of upcoming films, including 'The Incredible Hulk', 'Wanted', 'Hellboy II: The Golden Army', 'Mamma Mia!', and 'The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor'. You will notice that these films have not yet been released theatrically, meaning dates for their home video release are still a ways off.

On the catalog front, the first three Universal titles will be 'The Mummy', 'The Mummy Returns', and 'The Scorpion King', all which have been given a release date of July 22nd. No specs have been announced for these titles, nor any indication if they would be direct ports from the HD DVD or receive new transfers.

Also on slate for 2008 will be 'American Gangster', 'Knocked Up', 'The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Miami Vice', 'End of Days', 'U-571', and 'Land of the Dead'. More catalog releases are planned, but were not announced at this time.

I would like to personally thank Universal for this wonderful birthday gift. Paramount: you're on the clock.

I have successfully updated my PS3 with firmware V2.30. I tested it with the DTS-HD MA soundtrack on the Live Free or Die Hard Blu-ray disc. Didn't do any critical listening but what I did hear sounded pretty good! Now I just got to find some more movies that have the DTS-HD MA soundtracks!

Paramount is back in the Blu-ray camp!

The studio, which previously dumped the reigning high-def format in favor of HD DVD, is going back into the Blu-ray business—and has announced its release schedule.

Beginning May 20, the company will release the animated movie “Bee Movie,” as well as Nicolas Cage flicks “Face/Off” and “Next.” The Hollywood Reporter says the studio will kick it up a notch on June 3, with recent releases “Cloverfield” and “There Will Be Blood.”

On June 24, they will roll out “The Spiderwick Chronicles,” the kid-friendly fantasy starring Freddie Highmore, Nick Nolte and Mary-Louise Parker.

More titles will be coming later this year.

Paramount was originally one of the studios that catered to both Blu-ray and HD DVD owners, before choosing sides last August. They announced they would no longer produce HD DVD titles, shortly after Toshiba abandoned the format earlier this year.

anyone know the status of PS2 backward compatibility with PS3? I searched online and seems to get conflicting results.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/02/13/ps2 ... -dead-yet/

reason I'm asking is, I'm interested in the compilation discs available of "classic" (aka, old early 90's) sega games
