Anamorphic technology is used to squeeze 16x9 picture in to 4x3 DVD space. Blu-ray (HD) is already 16x9, hence anamorphic is not needed. However, it is possible to use anamorphic technology to squeeze 2.35:1 (scope) picture in to 16x9 HD space to more effectively use 16x9 pixel structure but I don't think this is done yet.
True -- but to play that, we'd need TVs that are either wider widescreen (2.35:1-ish rather than 16x9 in dimensions and/or a wider-widescreen mode in the regular 16x9 tvs that squeezes to a 2.35:1 frame.

Yes. This is correvt. Only currently available technology that could take advantage of a future anamorphic blu-ray disk is a projection system with an anamorphic lens. I just wanted to say, anamorphic concept is not (yet) in blu-ray. but it may in the future which is a good thing.

I hope blu-ray designers have done their homework on academy ratio movies (4:3) -- and that on HD TVs and Blu-ray discs, there would be some kind of horizontal reverse-anamorphic-type process to enjoy good HD PQ of 4:3 movies on blu-ray...

Horizontal anamorphic ..... Good idea to improve 4x3 quality on HD. Never heard of this before. The problem would be the display devices that could support horizontal anamorphic stretch. They should have though about all these options during the specs development process. Now it could be too late or not. Not sure.

There is no anamorphic on Blu Ray and there likely will never be. 4:3 has full 1080 lines. It looks good.

Yes, but that's part of the HD standard. You need 2K to avoid that.

When I received mine I thought it would have a cheap box similar to DVD with the label BLU RAY, I am glad I was wrong and it turned out to be the actual Blu Ray Cover and all.

I have a feeling though the quality of the PQ etc which is good right now is similar to when DVD first released and then it went down hill and off a cliff into no mans land! :? Blu Ray will be headed it that very direction ..

There's a mini-review from the guy who posted those cover photos;

Quote:
The picture quality is very good. Vibrant colors, with rich blacks and a three-dimensional pop to the whole thing. It would be a 5 star transfer if not for these random white "scratch" looking marks that show up often, but not too often to ruin the movie. I don't know if the problem is with my disc or the original film the discs were minted from so I would appreciate if someone else with this BD could state whether or not they see these same white scratch. I give it a 3.75/5, marking off for the scratches.

Urbanlegend,
If you dont mind letting us know .... How much did you pay for the Heyy Babyy BluRay disc (dont include the P+P)

Please could you buy a BluRay PC Drive so that you could share the screen shots with us.

The other thing is if Om Shanti Om does make it to BluRay I think it will have the same PQ as the DVD because the DVD say master from HD

What do you think, And will you be buying it on BluRay

Have Amazon told you anything about the release date of Saawariya

Thanks
JAT
