There were many actors, directors and films that have simply been forgotten because they were not supported by the industry and critics. Pankaj Kapoor may even be forgotten after he's gone. I'm glad last year that this argument broke out about Dharm vs. Eklavya for the Oscar race. It shows that people are fighting back and are bringing it to the public's attention. They should do this every year until bollywood if forced to take notice.

It's the jury at these awards show who are to blame, they have a prejudice against any film outside the mainstream mumbai-based film industry. I believe many of them simply don't know what a good film is, they are more concerned with awarding films and performances that were popular with the masses.

Bollywood at its best is only a variety entertainment programme production industry. Only money and clout speak. Talent and potential get lost in the barrage of popular cinema. Only those who can afford to build gaudy, cheap bungalows that resemble a cheap movie set, get to call the shots in this industry. In our industry's belief system the biggest hit becomes the best.

Look at Om Shanti Om. It's a copy of Karz which in itself was a copy of Reincarnation of Peter Proud. We are making copies of copies then one day we turn around to say don't call us Bollywood, that smacks of subservience to Hollywood. Really! I say we deserve to be called Bollywood only.

Just a thought... South asians, myself included, are born and bred to critique and over analyze everything in sight. No other populace in the world holds such widely 'holier than thow' views about its local cinema. I'll admit that the success of numerous films in Hindi cinema has often baffled my mind. I wish and pray they didn't succeed because then Mumbai churns out lots more of the same. But at the same time, we should respect the tastes (however horrible ) of others, and recognize that Bollywood only provides what the general public wants... otherwise, their films would not succeed.

Notice how you rarely hear Americans complain en masse about the success of films like Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Chronicles of Narnia, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Cloverfield and 95% of Adam Sandler's movies? You can't possibly expect me to believe that if these were Hindi movies, we wouldn't be tearing them to shreds, and complaining about the state of Hollywood filmdom. There's limited originality and impressiveness there too. Just a ton more financing.

My apology! I was not hugely impressed! He was Ok! But on its on merits not comparing to CDI!

I liked Dharam better in brief role in JG though!
