Bollywood fans will have to wait a little longer for the high-def release of 'Saawariya,' which Sony says will now hit Blu-ray this May, two months later than expected.

As previously reported, Sony had originally set a March 15 arrival for 'Saawariya,' day-and-date with the standard-def DVD. The studio has now set a new date of May 6 for both versions for 'Saawariya.'

Presented on a BD-50 dual-layer disc, the next-gen edition will include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and Hindi and English dub Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround options.

Supplements are fairly minimal, with only a "Making the Music" featurette and a "Premiere Night" montage of press kit footage included.

As previously announced, Sony has set a suggested retail for the Blu-ray of $38.95.

Although RRP is $38.95, Amazon has listed it for $26.95 which is not bad in comparison to Hollywood Blu-ray disks.

Have you got any news about any other Bollywood Blu-ray releases. Om Shanti Om, Heyy Babyy or any others.

Thanks.

I have to disagree. Read the short story from which the movie is based on. When you watch it...view it as a MUSICAL and nothing else...think of it as a story told through the MOODS, the COLOURS & MUSIC only...forget the story itself...put yourself IN the movie and see it...you will TRULY APPRECIATE the GENIUS behind this movie. Yes, it was NOT the best...but appreciating this movie depends on your knowledge of the material behind the movie and what the director wanted.

Bhaii! I am sorry to say, that I humbly failed to appreciate any virtues of this film, even music as presented in film was a huge let down for me. It was simply hard to sit through. :(

Give me a BLURAY of MOULINE ROUGE, MGM, I'll buy two happily lol. Some how unfortunately I failed miserably to appreciate, writer/director's grand vision in this case.

I love the movie, I can understand why a lot of people wouldn't like it.
It was not a typical masala movie, the story was very subtle building to a climax. It's unfortunate that Bollywood movies are all really classified as the same 'genre'.

Blue ray will be worth getting for sure as reference quality even if you don't like the movie!

I wasn't sure where to place this: either in the new Blu-Ray thread or in the Saawariya thread. I assume it'd be more useful since it's information about the actual DVD and Blu-Ray release.

The official specs can be found here:

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/saawariya.html

Not much in terms of extras (I'm sure they were mentioned in the Blu-Ray thread as well) but hey, it's a start.

both ARs exist in movies - 2.35 is more common... sometimes 2.40 is ref to as 2.35 too -- a lil confusing, but 2.35 means uncropped and so does 2.40 (for different movies of course)
http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/arti ... ion=report
Quote:
2.40:1 (Anamorphic Scope)
When a director wants to give his or her picture that ‘epic’ feel, something that simply isn’t possible when shooting in Academy Flat, they have a couple of options open to them. At present the most popular of these is Anamorphic Scope, with its ratio of 2.40:1 (meaning that the image is 2.4 times wider than it is tall). Often referred to simply as Scope, after the old CinemaScope format, the ratio was altered to 2.40:1 from 2.35:1 in the 1970s in order to better hide film splices. Many people still refer to Scope as 2.35:1, and it is for this reason that a great number of Scope DVD releases are still labelled as 2.35:1 (although this is now beginning to change). Some examples of well-known films presented in the Scope ratio are the Star Wars trilogy, Jaws, Alien and, more recently, Donnie Darko.

some people were too stupid to realise even from the screenshot that the A/R was 2.403!!!
one stupid ripper argued the merits of 2.5 being correct when they ripped it...

anyway...bluRay was fantastic; got mine from eBay
