More so than not, 2007 has had a saleable year in male performances for hindi cinema. Shahrukh Khan has rarely been better and has never been so touching or effectively restrained as he is in Chak De! India. John Abraham is magnetic and completely captivating as "K". But Akshay Khanna's performance is so profoundly heartbreaking and unforgettable that my vote had to go his way.

1. Akshay Khanna (Gandhi, My Father)
2. John Abraham (No Smoking)
3. Mithun Chakraborty (Guru)
4. Vinay Pathak (Bheja Fry)
5. Darsheel Safary (Taare Zameen Par)
6. Abhishek Bachchan (Guru)
7. Shahrukh Khan (Chak De! India)
8. Madhavan (Guru)
9. Paresh Rawal (No Smoking)
10. Ranvir Shorey (Bheja Fry)

HM: Abhishek (Jhoom Brabar Jhoom), Aamir Khan (Taare Zameen Par), Ranvir Shorey (No Smoking), Darshan Jariwala (Gandhi, My Father).

Welcome!!!Holy Mowgli! Nana puts my head in shame with his excellent talent man  But if we go with bollywood criteria who could go over board the max, among AB/SRK/NANA etc! He might be a safe choice too, but ofcourse our GOLAM Feroz Khan is runner up!

It seems like law of the jungle! No doubt! Welcome is he number ONE grosser and deserve all the accolades.

I agree that Akshaye Khanna gave the best performance of the year with "Gandhi, my father", but believe he will be overlooked come awards time and the award will probably be given to SRK, though he doesn't deserve it. I think Pankaj Kapoor did very well in Dharm and Blue umbrella but doubt he'd win anything or even be noticed. I think even Neil Nitin Mukesh did well in Johnny Gadaar, but he won't win anything.

As you can guess I have little regard for those bollywood award ceremonies.

It is SAD :( but when talent is not promoted and appreciated it dies its own death. The role that Pankaj did in DUS if any of other wankas main stream favs would do, Akki, Bachans in any format, yrf 's srk and its portages etc it will earn a BEST ACTOR IN NEGATIVE ROLE NOD, especially created that year. and look at CRITIC's award , PANKAJ WAS UNDOUBTEDLY, UNCONTESTED WINNER for DHARM, and CHATRI CHOR, but I bet these film was not even considered. Dharm needed EXTRA NODE for BEST CRITIC AWARD film too!

There were many actors, directors and films that have simply been forgotten because they were not supported by the industry and critics. Pankaj Kapoor may even be forgotten after he's gone. I'm glad last year that this argument broke out about Dharm vs. Eklavya for the Oscar race. It shows that people are fighting back and are bringing it to the public's attention. They should do this every year until bollywood if forced to take notice.

It's the jury at these awards show who are to blame, they have a prejudice against any film outside the mainstream mumbai-based film industry. I believe many of them simply don't know what a good film is, they are more concerned with awarding films and performances that were popular with the masses.

There's an interesting article here about this subject.

http://www.ndtvmovies.com/newstory.asp? ... 0080041889

"Take any popular film award in India, it's headed by a jury that's completely film illiterate and absolutely star smitten. Our judges are such madcaps that they completely succumb to the populist cinema and box office success instead of acknowledging talent."

"Bollywood at its best is only a variety entertainment programme production industry. Only money and clout speak. Talent and potential get lost in the barrage of popular cinema."

"There's no dearth of good independent cinema in India, cinema that doesn't always cave into the irrational pressures of populist taste and the economy of blockbusters. Just that, these films are not able to rub shoulders with megastarrrer, multi-crore budget films and are forced to pale into insignificance due to lack of adequate recognition."

Straight to the point!
