DVD transfer looks okay. Crap movie, though. It had some fun with the references to Rajini's style and whatnot, but the villain was weak, and this is more of the same from Shankar.

BTW, the picturization of Athiradee seems to be a combination of Desperado and Eyes Wide Shut :D

if this is OK! soft, lusterless, then, no comments! No doubt in last 10 years or so, Hindi movies dvds have gone backwards not forwards.

Go listen to Jodha Akbar it is pretty good though!

Zoran009 - There were compression problems with the DVD. But trying to fit a 190min film with 5.1 sound is tricky. It would be intresting to know what you consider a decent Indian DVD title?

sunny!! come on yaar! you are guru of bollywood dvds!It all started with you!Who else wll be a better judge of A GOOD dvd transfer? :o

From the shots this isn't one of the best DVDs I've seen, but its better than most Hindi DVDs. Sharpness is lacking. Did they filter the image some to make it easier to compress?

Instead of releasing seperate 5.1 and DTS discs, a better option would have been to release one version with both audio tracks and with the film split over two discs. That would have avoided the bulk of the compression problems.

CRAZYDVDBUYER - We did have plans to release a special features disc. However, AVM rejected the idea. Ayngaran had no say in the matter.

Wasn't Gemini an AVM film? I think that DVD had a special features disc...........strange that they'd reject one for the Sivaji DVD. What difference does it make to them anyway?!?!?!?!

The actual film has an overall softness feel. When we boosted up the sharpness, we found lots of halo effects. In the end we decided to go for the original look from the original 35mm negative.

Also, we asked many consumers (in the ayngaran stores) on weather they minded if this particular film was split across two DVD discs with Dolby and DTS. The survey came back with a resounding no (89%). They wanted the whole film on one disc. Its a shame really as I wanted the film spilt across two discs.

AVM held out on releasing special features to Ayngaran for reasons unknown. Ayngaran tried hard but they rejected all our ideas. I suspect that AVM wish to do something major when they themselves release the DVD for the India Market.

Consumers are ignorant when it comes to this stuff. They don't know that cramming it onto 2 layers would result in lower video quality. Put a banner on there that says "Film spread over 2 discs to preserve quality" and people will buy it.

I would like to see how they did the computerized skin grafting technique to make Rajini look white in the Style song.

It looks like the customers at the ayngaran stores had no idea what the survey even meant in the first place. I thought the special features would include the program of making of the movie Shivaji I heard was shown on sun tv.

Okay, here is an update. Ayngaran will not release the DVD of Sivaji until a few issues have been resolved. I am currently in Chennai trying to sort this matter out. Also, I am going to do my best to obtain special features. One idea is to release the 175 days special program (75mins) shown on Kalagai TV which had interviews, FX work, and deleted scenes.

I agree that the average DVD Consumers contradict themselves and do not know what they want. However, if we are to release a two disc set then for budgetary reasons Ayngaran will keep the film on one disc with one 5.1 soundtrack. The second disc will have special features. If I still cannot get special features then I will press Ayngaran to spread the film across two DVDs, or we can release a DVD-18 disc.

In a perfect world I would like to have released a three-disc DVD collectors edition, but the oversees Tamil market cannot justify such costs. Maybe we can do a special release for the Indian market (like the Lagaan DVD).

Thanks for your hard work on the Sivaji DVD Sunny, and all the updates. I'll be picking up the DVD for sure when it comes out, and the blu-ray...if one is ever released!

wow! sunny! bravo!effort! commendable!

Why not to release single disc dd/sp features, for mass market and then 2-3 disc with dts limited edition, and features at some additional cost, so all will be fine!

We really appreciate all your efforts on this. All the best for a good dvd release. Thanks.
