What was the ending of Ankhen? Are we supposed to assume that Amitabh was in cahoots with Arjun and Akshay?

He bribed the police officer to get out of jail.
"The Dangerous Game continues..." would be the best way to describe that ending.

Mimicked Aks ending in a way – both are perfectly setup up for sequels, but whether they happen is another matter.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Ok man, I feel that Aankhen could never have ended another way. If you see the movie, AB is the real star of the movie - yeah he's the bad guy, but he's the main focus 100% of the way. As evident by the energetic opening, you could see that AB is evil and psychotic, yet he could never lose. He can't lose. He's like James Bond except he's the bad guy!!

The ending is kept in tact when considering the above point. Even though it looks like the good guys "won", AB has not lost at all!! In fact, he's just getting the second round. Keeping with the stylish execution of the plot, the movie ends EXACTLY where it should be - AB gets ready to strike while Akshay and Arjun get ready to defend. These two have the guns while AB has the brains - and the action continues.

The next film should begin with AB boarding the train, while Akshay senses his presence and then should go from there. The cat and mouse should continue and the series should be about how AB's always chasing the money. More characters should be introduced (and killed off) while the main three characters always move on to a greater set of adventures. This could have the potential to be a Bond-style series of films, if done right.

now indiafm has posted news of a sequel without Akshay, directed by Sachin? It also mentions original Aankhen having 2 endings: one for India & one for overseas!
can anyone enlighten?

SPOILER regarding alternate endings

Indian ending is right after Akshay finds the diamonds in Paresh's harmonium. It is assumed that Akshay, Arjun and the kid live happily while the baddie Mr Bachchan is in jail.

The foreign ending is what is featured in the DVDs. After the Indian ending, we are shown Bachchan bribing the officer, framing his old nemesis and then going after Akshay and Arjun at the railway station.

The director said he thought the Indian audience wud have a problem seeing the evil winning over the good. So he opted for a traditional ending, keeping the original ending for overseas and DVD. Later he regretted saying he should have used the same ending in India too.

thanks for the info inman, but how do u know this? did u see the indian version, or were u told this.

the director shouldn't regret the indian ending, as the film did good business in India.

I was told about this. I also read an interview by the director.

The movie did reasonably well, but definitely didnt get the success it deserved. The only negative points were the songs.

I enjoyed Aankhen a lot and the ending does set it up a sequel but I remember reading that they weren't really going for a sequel. The rights to the film were sold to Hollywood (still waiting for that version). I think that in this recent wave of sequels, Aankhen is yet another. But honestly you have AB but no Akshay or Arjun? The interview on IndiaFM states that the producers aren't sure where to lead off the sequel: either the happy ending (in which yes, I can see them not having Akshay or Arjun's character) or the train ending in which there is no way you can have a film without the two blind men. This will no doubt become another sequel in the lineup. I don't think Aankhen needs a sequel as the film is great with that element of 'What if' at the end. Just my two cents.

Now ‘Aankhen 2’
By Taran Adarsh, September 12, 2006 - 09:00 IST
Sequels are in. Every established and resourceful producer is making one. And why not? With sequels to HERA PHERI [PHIR HERA PHERI], KOI… MIL GAYA [KRRISH] and MUNNABHAI M.B.B.S. [LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI] proving smash hits and the sequel to DHOOM [DHOOM 2] being awaited with bated breath, the dream merchants in Mumbai are getting ready to write a new chapter in film-making.

Now get set for the sequel to AANKHEN.

The Amitabh Bachchan - Akshay Kumar - Arjun Rampal - Paresh Rawal film will have a sequel. Gaurang Doshi, who produced AANKHEN, is working on the pre-production of the sequel currently. “It’s called AANKHEN 2,” he tells me.

Gaurang is tightlipped about the film since he’s yet to finalize the four important players in the sequel. “I can’t make a film without Amit-ji [Bachchan Sr.]. Of course, he’ll head the cast of the sequel,” he smiles. What about Akshay? “No, he’s not connected to the sequel. We have finalized two top names, besides Amit-ji, and are in the midst of finalizing the fourth. So, it’s premature to drop names at this juncture,” he adds.

Vipul Shah, who directed AANKHEN, won’t direct its sequel, since things weren’t hunky-dory between Gaurang and Vipul when AANKHEN released. “Actor-director Sachin is directing the sequel. In fact, Sachin and his team of writers are writing the sequel,” Gaurang divulges.

AANKHEN had two endings -- the first for the Overseas audiences, the second for the Indian audiences. Which end will form the beginning of AANKHEN 2? “I am not revealing that yet,” Gaurang laughs aloud. AANKHEN 2 goes on floors in November this year, along with Gaurang’s other film HAPPY BIRTHDAY, directed by Sriram Raghavan.
