Funnily enough people who do pay for this DVD not only have to put up with mediocre video quality with the embedded ads & logo – they also have to watch the anti-piracy ads at the start of the DVD. Preaching to the converted? You don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the irony, oh well I suppose we should count our blessings that at they’ve made the anti-piracy ads skipable  (along with the movie  )

... well apparently T-series are trying out a new distribution channel for this DVD - they are seemingly giving it away on a free download at the usual places :bash:

Stop Piracy eh, how do you think T-Series got their start? Selling pirated tapes in Delhi in the 80s.

Gulshan Kumar and T-Series were the biggest music software pirates in the world at one time. In fact T-Series, while still under Gulshan Kumar, was known to pirate even it's own titles and actually sold more copies of the pirated/unoffical version than the originals. In case you are wondering why anyone would do that, well for two reasons. Number one to steal from the title/film producers, by not having to share the true royalties with them. Gulshan Kumar/T-Series even started releasing cover versions of titles that they had the original rights to. This again was done to avoid paying royalties to the original producers. The Second reason for doing all this, was to steal from the government on Excise Duty. By selling pirated/unaccounted for copies T-Series did not have to pay Excise Duty on them. This was a pretty openly known secret, which is why a time came when no one from Bollywood wanted to do business with Gulshan Kumar/T-Series anymore. Thus for quite a long time T-Series would not get rights to any new titles, that's when T-Series were left with simply making cover versions of new Bollywood releases and they also started releasing albums for films that would actually never get made and/or released. There were some titles that they did produce and release but a lot of the announced titles only had the songs picturised to promote the music.

By the way for those that may not know, Gulshan Kumar was a roadside juice vendor in Lajpat Rai market before he turned to releasing pirated audio tapes. Partly the music industry themselves were to blame for promoting Gulshan Kumar, by not releasing their titles only on LP records and not on audio cassettes. Thus the constomer really had no choice but to buy pirated if they wanted audio cassettes. When finally HMV did start releasing the audio tapes, they outpriced themselves by charging the same Re 50 - Re 55 for the tapes that they did for LP records. Now do keep in mind that we are talking of almost 25 yrs back, when Re 50 was a whole lot of money. Actually Re 50 back then would be almost equal to Re 1000 now if not even more. Considering the average and even the upper middle class Indian's earning back then, that surely was an obscene amount to charge.

Sanjay can I add to the info Tips (Indian Music/DVDCompany) got GULSHAN KUMAR SHOT THEY PAID NADEEM-SHRAVAN MUSIC DIRECTORS TO HIRE SOME UNDER WORLD GANG TO GET HIM SHOT

Gulshan Kumar

Gulshan Kumar (?– August 12, 1997) was a wealthy Indian Bollywood movie producer. He is known for producing the T-Series of Indian films.

Kumar was the son of a fruit juice seller in Darya Ganj market in Delhi.

He founded Super Cassette Industries, a small videocassette pirating operation that soon grew to be a giant. He later started a music production company in Noida, near Delhi. Kumar is credited by some with starting the practice of exercising a loophole in Indian copyright law, creating cover versions of popular songs. In late 70’s he was determined to prove that all reputed music companies charge exorbitantly high price with inadequate quality for audio-tapes. He brought highly economical music cassettes with adequate quality that common man could afford. He imported for quality music when his business grew. He introduced immense young talent to the music world, like Sonu Nigam, Anuradha Paudwal, and Kumar Sanu to just name a few who went on to become successful singers. Earlier, the Indian music industry was controlled by a few high-profiled singers, which discouraged new talent. He opened the entertainment industry that a layman felt encouraged to compete and that trend continues.

Kumar worked to accomplish his endeavors for community service. He established a bhandara (serving free home style food round the clock) to pilgrims hiking to one of the revered Hindu shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. Gulshan became an icon for a Hindu businessmen involved with sharing his wealth with community. Gulshan introduced music cassettes at highly subsidized prices which promoted religion among fellow Hindus. Gulshan produced films and TV series which covered various parts of Hindu mythology introduced new actors, singers, music directors and many more.

Kumar was the highest tax payer in India in financial year 1992-1993.

As a film producer, he became involved with the Indian Mafia ( Also known as the Mumbai Underworld ), a fixture in the financing of Bollywood films. The financing from underworld is very common in Bollywood which has brought crime to world's biggest movie capital. Various other stars have suffered from the same.

Murder
On August 12, 1997, Gulshan Kumar was shot dead by unknown assassins from the Mumbai Underworld, outside the Jeeteswar Mahadev Mandir Hindu temple in the Juhu suburb of Mumbai. Nadeem, of the music duo Nadeem-Shravan, was accused by the Bombay police for having paid the gang for the murder. His death came as a big shock to the Hindi film world.

On January 9, 2001, Abdul Rauf (known as "Raja"),confessed to having killed Gulshan Kumar.

On April 29, 2002, Rauf was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Mumbai court. Sessions Judge M L Tahilyani stated that he was not imposing the death penalty on Rauf because the prosecution had failed to prove that Rauf was a contract killer.

Don't know why there is so much blue tint and washed out colors. Not sure if the colors can be brought back to life by adjusting color/ contrast controls in the monitor.

But, the DVD has perfect 2-3 pull down for progressive viewing. No chroma lag or 4th frame info split into 4th and 5th frames. 5th frames are exact repeat of 4th frames.

Bottom line is, that the guy was no more than a thug and a thief. He got what he deserved when he was shot after what else do you expect when the life he led was full of crime and association with the underworld. By the way just to add some more info, he was also majorly involved in the cricket gambling racket. Oh and the Taurani's of Tips too have pretty much a similar history as Gulshan Kumar.

PS: For those who might want to give him credit for being a very religious and charitable man, I have this to say. It was all business. If you sell soft drinks, you sponsor rock shows, if you sell 'bhajans', well then you sponsor religious functions. Quite simple actually.
