True -- way better than the two prequels -- in fact, the Africa scenes of the possessed boy were done far better in E2 than in the two prequels. Also, "Dominion" (the prequel shot but not released theatrically) keeps the story of E2 intact while "Exorcist The Beginning" (the prequel released theatrically) deviates from E2 introducing gaping plot holes in the series and is utter trash. Dominion is the better of the two.

Again, you'll find a whole bunch of people who loved Exorcist (the original) and are fans, and you'll find people like Ali bhai who slept through ;-)

Exorcist 2 - again the same -- some people trash it, some are fans...

And this is the normal pattern for any movie I guess... AAG seems to the only exception where no one wants to be called its fan (the 10 year old liked it... hmmm)

Dominion is only slightly better, not much. I was expecting more from father Merrin's battle with Pazazu, but it looked like a TV movie! But I can see how "the beginning" would've done better as it's more pleasing to the popcorn date-movie crowd and the posessed woman looked very similar to a grown-up version of Linda Blair from the original Exorcist.
By the way, if you liked the Exorcist, look that the extended version, I think it's better, if only slightly, the spider-walk made a difference.

I think we can excuse the 10-year old as being too young to see Aag and I'm sure when he grows up he's gonna see some sense and hate the film like most normal people do. I wouldn't be surprised if Aag goes down in Indian film history as being the worst remake ever! I still wouldn't say it's the worst Indian film - a title KANK currently holds.

Well said!

Though when I watched KANK a second time, I actually liked it :) and so did several others on second viewing ;-)

But then KANK, like any normal movie, has its fans and detractors, unlike the abnormal AAG.

SPOILERS BELOW for EXORCIST series

Meanwhile the plot hole that "The Beginning brought in -- it was always the kid who was possessed -- never the woman -- as in E2 and Dominion ;-)

I prefer the theatrical cut to the "extended"/"Director's."

There are three cuts of the original Exorcist -- first the original theatrical cut, then the special edition some years later, and finally the extended cut.

heh heh -- ok ;-)

I think we'll end up discussing all movies in this topic -- perhaps we should rename this as "Aag And The Rest"

Wow! This thread definitely makes amongst the most popular threads on zulm. 429 posts, close to 36,000 views, so far.
Going by this, RGV may even go for a sequel " RGV Ki Aag-II " or a triology "RGV Ki Zameen" and then "RGV Ka Paani" (Fire, Earth, Water).

This thread refuses to die, because we just can't stop venting our frustrations on Aag. Has there ever been a more hated film in the history of Indian cinema? Why the hell did Ram Gopal Varma have to be the one responsible for this piece of crap? He was one of India's best directors, now this may overshadow all of his previous work.
