OK, so it's "Aag" and "Babban" and "Ghungroo" and all that (confirmed by the film's official Web site). I still don't get why Ram Gopal Varma couldn't re-do Sholay more than ten years after it the original was made — as, for instance, Farhan Akhtar, in 2006, re-made 1978's, Don — but, even if he couldn't re-use the names, what's with Varma's total self-indulgence: throwing himself into the title as he does? Why not just, Aag? Even when I heard, "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay," I assumed it was only a "working-title," because no one should, or maybe could, be tacky and conceited enough to entitle his effort that way. First, this project looks more like a "B movie" than a first-class, polished film; then, Varma's title knocks it down a notch further: "C" — maybe "C-."

Man, I was really hoping that, with Nishabd, Varma had curbed the pattern of shit that he embarked upon manufacturing over the past few years. I'll admit, Nishabd's promotions hardly excited me, and the film ended up hitting me as a total, brilliant surprise; I loathe the practice of passing final judgement on a work before experiencing it, and I suppose Aag could still blow me away. It's gonna be an up-hill battle, though...

The controversial remake of Sholay from Ram Gopal Varma has been in the news since its inception. G. P. Sippy's grandson Sasha Sippy had taken Varma to court for using the title Sholay for the film, prompting the court to order Varma to change not only the title of his film, but the names of the characters as well.

The Sholay remake is now titled Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, from Ram Gopal Varma Ki Sholay. The major characters have all been renamed as well.

Amitabh Bachchan stars as Baban Singh (instead of Gabbar Singh played by Amjad Khan in the original), Ajay Devgan as Hirendra 'Heero' Chavan (instead of Veeru played by Dharmendra in original), Prashant Raj as Raj Ranade (instead of Jai played by Amitabh Bachchan in original), Nisha Kothari as Ghungroo (instead of Basanti played by Hema Malini in the original) and Sushmita Sen as Devi (instead of Radha played by Jaya Bhaduri in the original).

The film is currently set to release on August 31st and it's offical site has been launched at http://www.RGVKIAAG.com. For all news for the film, click here.

Theatrical trailers have been running. I saw it with Cash. I must say, it looks very very good. High octane entertainment with killer sounds. AB really looks evil to the extreme as villain. AB's roar, gun shots were ear deafening. Plus, glamour quotient that was missing in orig Sholay.

It's a 11 min TV report/ film clip.
If the clip comes under "acceptable for family viewing" film will be hit. Don't think adult only audience is enough for this film to be successful ??

---------------
One comment in the clip says that so many video clips have been released that almost all film can be viewed in clips.

Sorry but I just don't know how you guys can look forward to this. I've been seeing the promos on TV and it looks awful! You can already say it's gonna be "style over substance". Amitabh over-acting, Ajay showing no charisma and the less said about Urmila the better. This is the first RGV film that I'm not looking forward to. And RGV has put his name in the title "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag". Has this guy got a big ego or what? It's like he already thinks he's made a masterpiece.

Style is all you can see in clips anyway. And, that Style looks good. Rest after we see the film. We can't judge what we haven't seen yet.

GAG! :( -Horrific music. By far the worst Mehbooba remix.

Himesh and Asha’s Mehboob song and Harry Anand’s Mehbooba remix are better.

Harry Anand's was kind of cheesey and Himesh Reshammiya's pretty much sucked. Varma's is probably the best re-mix so far.

at least it is fresh tunes, not recycled, except mehbooba! songs are same thematically.

some arrangements in romantic ched chad songs sound from bhoot/horror genre film though courtesy to rgv's exotic style.

bhoot/sarkar both were remakes, so did vastru
