Since the release of
Apne (2007), I thought it would be appropriate to post a thread about, what I'm pretty sure is, Dharmendra's only other "boxing movie":
Main Intequam Loonga (1982). I caught it a little while ago, and — despite my misgivings from its title, and my confidence that it would be "just another cheesey '80s' movie" — I actually sort of liked it. Honestly, yes, there is plenty of that "'80s' cheese" present; I could probably make a few sandwiches (did you laugh?). Nevertheless, it's really not a "bad" film, and, once you understand that any movie will be a reflection of its times, I believe
Main Intequam Loonga actually becomes a pretty enjoyable venture. It also doesn't hurt any that Dharmendra — aging and gaining a little weight; somewhat awkward in the ring — is still somehow so charismatic as to be completely watchable and likeable in the lead role. I admit that Nirupa Roy's classic motherly bitching has lost almost all its appeal over the years (she also seems to have gotten bitchier with every such subsequent role, and her part in this film came toward the end of the spectrum), but her character is surrounded by enough rational, reasonable people so not to become utterly intolerable.
Altogether, I quite liked the movie. I wonder if anyone else in this forum remembers it; and, if he does, is it a fond memory that he has?
*I wonder, were any of Dharm's "flashback" moments in
Apne actually clips of
Main Intequam Loonga?

Rocky II's training montage.
