With this year coming to a close and no other promising BW film on the outlook for this year (Guru is unfortunately coming next year folks) here are my picks for the year's best performances.

1) Saif in "Omkara" - Far and away the greatest performance of the year. No ifs, ands or buts.

2) Aamir in RDB - Aamir's best act since DCH.

3) Konkona Sen in "Omkara" - it's a supporting act but it's the best female performance I've seen this year.

4) Sharman Joshi in RDB - Who would have thought that guy from "Style" would hurl one of the year's best acts? Go figure.

5) Shreyas Talpade in "Dor" - This is indeed a great act from the youngster that got lost in the shuffle of the heavyweights of this industry.

6) Ayesha Takia in "Dor" - This is the best lead act by a female this year. Takia is fast approaching the likes of Mukherjee with her sophmore act. Looking forward to seeing her work in "No Smoking".

7) Kareena Kapoor in "Omkara" - Along with "Dev", this is Kapoor's best effort to date.

8 ) Arshad Warsi in LRM - The best comedic performance in 2006.

9) Sanjay Dutt in LRM - As with Munnabhai MBBS, Dutt's gangster persona is put to good use in LRM.

10) Ajay Devgan in "Omkara" - An effective performance that ranks with Devgan's best even though we have stood witness to these acts numerous times from Devgan's oeuvre.

Everyone seems to be raving about Saif Ali Khan's work in Omkara, and, sadly, I haven't even watched it yet...

Ayesha Takia gave a flawless performance in DOR, and it would've been the year's best performance by a female in a leading role for me, if I wouldn't have seen Konkona Sen Sharma in 15 PARK AVENUE. That was a haunting performance.

Yes, I believe it is.

I have to disagree, he was his usual self in RDB even though he had the biggest role, it wasn't an amazing performance. His best act since DCH was in The Rising.

Probably true.

I can't remember who he played, but anything has got to be better than "Style".

Yes, regretebly I have to say it is. But not Dev, she wasn't anything special in Dev.

You must be joking. His performance was weak to say the least, he was very disappointing. His best performances was in Legend of Bhagat Singh and Company. He was given a great role in Omkara and he failed to deliver.

Mr. Khiladi, you're right about Devgan. The thing is I couldn't really figure out a 10th actor to slot.

- The ensemble cast (basically everyone) in Omkara (especially Saif, even though I felt it bordered on Richard III more than Iago at times.)
- Shabana Azmi in Umrao Jaan
- Preity Zinta in KANK (Shocking, because I usually find her an appalling actor; but the understated, focused approach here was the horrible film's saving grace.)
- And if you're counting it as 2006, Tabu is breathtaking in The Namesake; surely worthy of an Oscar nom, but it will never happen.

EDIT: Oh, Seema Biswas too, but Water released in Canada last year.

I just caught "Corporate," which I think is deserving of nominations for Bipasha Basu and Kay Kay Menon. This film is severely underrated.

And of course, as you all know, I'm a KANK fanatic so I would vote for any of the actors in that, especially Abhishek.

"KANK," as in, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna? I respect your right to an opinion and all, but, damn, I didn't find anyone's work in that film "award-worthy"...

Fair enough, commando303. I know that we've definitely already had long discussions about it and I'm in the minority on that one, but it is one of my favorite films now, of all time. I know people are going to flame away and I totally understand but I've seen it three times now and it gets better for me, each time.

I don't see why anyone should flame you for liking a movie (no matter how bad it is — ). Really, I'm sure Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Shah Rukh Khan will rake in all the awards this year at FilmFare; if supposed institutions dedicated to appreciated good cinema and good performances are going to praise a film, I really don't think any of us would attack you for your taste. :D

(lol) What effort? Kareena gets award for weeping and putting on a phony accent there are far better weepers than her. Konkena Sen gave the best performance.
