Thanks, C!

I'll cross my fingers and hope that the customer service rep was wrong. I enjoy the intervals.

if you enjoy intervals so much, why don't you just stay at home and have a long duration interval? :P

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but the Fallbrook 7 doesn't have an Interval for Cheeni Kum, or any other movie.

the musicindiaonline review posted by arsh miyan is an accurate representation of the movie

Yes, there is, but many American theaters don't actually "break" for the intermission; the screen says "interval," and the movie then just resumes (sometimes there might be a commercial or two in between).

That's exactly what happens in The Netherlands too, and I think it's good that way. I don't like to wait for 10 minutes before the film resumes.

With me, it depends on the movie: If it's short, I also don't love waiting around for ten minutes, wandering from the bathroom to the snack-counter, hoping the second half isn't as short as the first. If, however, it's a long, sweeping, "epic" sort of film, I don't really mind a little break.

This movie is a winner. One to add to my collection!
It's a light comedy with plenty of sarcastic humor from start to finish.
None of the people that reviewed this movie are qualified to watch cinema.

Just an average 2 hr TV program to my taste. I won't call it a film although Indiafm.com, as well as, Rediff.com are rating it exceptionally high (3-3.5 stars out of 4).

Well, Flolks are liking Cheeni Kum and it has become a commercial success. Even my wife is all praise for it. Perhaps mine is the only negative reaction ??
Again, I never said Cheeni Kum is not good. I just said, "it's not a film presentation but a TV, and a good one, presentation". :?

SHOLAY is another such title where my reaction was not as good as every one else's. But, Sholay was a film presentation. I just didn't like it any more than an average film.

I dunno about this one. I wanted to like it, but just didn't like it as much as others. I like the fact that it's different and not typical but for me it was 'too light' for a light comedy. Maybe my sense of humour was incompatible with this film. Refreshing to see something different though. I dunno why but it somehow reminded me of 'Mistress of spices'.

Caught CHEENI KUM yday after having watched the AR Rahman show in Chicago. Its a good sign that almost all Hindi movies are now being released in AMC theaters in the Chicago area. We saw in the South Barrington cineplex.

Now to the movie. It begins wonderfully well. The cinematography is top notch. Balki does know the medium and though I wanted to love the movie, I only ended up thinking it was an alright movie.

I think Balki's writing suffers from too much of an ad background where you have to tell a story in 30 secs. This forces you to be extremely clever and pack things in and not have to worry about back story and stuff. In a full length feature unfortunately you have to take care of a ton of things. The movie has a ton of good things going for it however. The mother-son relationship(Bachchan-Sehgal), the courtship between the leads, Bachchan's cute relationship with his neighbor's little girl are nice threads. The weakest link in the whole story was Paresh Rawal. Can you believe a talented actor such as he was so wasted in a stupid unexplored, and shoddily written characterisation. While all through the movie the lead characters are going about very maturely about the way things are, suddenly you have this conflict thrusted upon you which may have sounded great on paper when originally written as a concept note, but never did get enough attention to be vhetted out finally. IMO it could have done with a little more editing, at least another 15 minutes or so.

Bachchan is efficient as the sarcastic, sardonic chef. Tabu's beautiful and like AB's character you are equally puzzled why such a positive person never has found anyone fulfilling until then. Its quite the paradox. Zohra Sehgal is as always delightful. AB and she parry beautifully.

The first hour or so of the movie moves so effortlessly you dont even notice it and that is the movie's triumph. It is in the conflict resolving latter half of the movie that it falters unfortunately.

I didnt quite catch it in the credits but the dialogues are nice. The way PC Sreeram has captured London with his soothing lens it is simply fantastic.

For all its technical finesse, CHEENI KUM does end up disappointing a little, but again its a recommended one-time watch on the big screen.

I, too, noticed the similarities. Work on Cheeni Kum commenced last year (2006), and I believe No Reservations was started early 2007. Honestly, the latter looks like shit...

hiccup (lol)....but i thought opposite...
Cheeni Kum kind of bored me plus the romance parts that were suppose to be funny were corny, predicable and soap opera. Tabu acted dead pan, Amitabh’s mom was pretty good and the best one of all little girl named Sexy was a natural imo she really shine in film. conversations between Sexy and Amitabh were amusing while the whole schmiel with the bucked tooth guy was overdone. still prefer the movie Joggers’ Park much better over Cheeni Kum. didn’t care for the songs all that much even though Shreya’s voice sounds great. maybe I should’ve watched Nisbad instead ?

Not everyone likes everything (and, no, that's not a dig at your taste), but this one (I) certainly did very much enjoy Cheeni Kum. Amitabh Bachchan was perfect and thoroughly watchable as a cantankerous, childish old chef who falls for a girl that he's always a little worried might realize wasn't even born back when he would have been too old to join the army; Tabu's as reserved, intelligent, and charismatic as she should be in her role; even Paresh Rawal — whom no one seemed to care for in the picture — is pretty terrific as an obstinate father who you know will lose the battle but don't mind watching throw a fit. As for Nishabd, it's simply one of the best films of the year, if not of the... well, I don't want to over-sell it, but it's really, really good.

I got a confirmation from a chick that watched both films that No Reservations and Cheeni Kum are not related, and Cheeni Kum is far better.

No Reservations is a remake of the French film Mostly Martha (2001). So if Cheeni Kum lifted from anything, it is from the French film.
