The Satyajit Ray film Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne has been digitally remastered and shown in India:

http://in.rediff.com/movies/2007/may/25goopy.htm

It'll probably be too much to expect a decent DVD of this film - at the moment, the rights to all the Ray films in India are with various different companies, who release crap quality VCDs and DVDs to make a quick buck.

Something else for those of you wanting to catch some Ray films, ripped from Desitorrents:

First of all this Festival is in Bollywood Movies section to catch a larger audience.
#
Most of the movies are in Bengali language.
Some are in hindi too but all will have English Subtitle.

# ~ ~ #
The idea originated in Farooq's thread for the "Satranj Ke Khilari" movie released by him sometime ago this year.
#
Special thanks to the awesome work done by my team mate "Digitalone"
for doing his awesome detective work in searching whole "Desiland" to get hands on 25 of the DVDs.
Without him, this would have been impossible.

#
Farooq & Rampampam are already participating in this FESTIVAL & will release the Xvid and X264 version. We are all working together on specific scripts and filtering processings to get the best quality rip out of these DVDs and bring it you all on DT.
Welcome to Rihaad & debpk77 who have joined this festival.

All these DVDs are from the Digitally Restored version done in France, USA or Germany)

Charulata (#04) will be showing tonite at TFO (TV Ontario French) at 9 PM. They have been showing it's preview/ announcements and the PQ looks just amazing.

Looks like Charulata has been remastered and avail on DVD.

BTW, I noticed another Satyajit Ray film playing a week or two ago at same time slot 9 PM Friday. There musty be some Satyajit Ray collection being shown on TFO ??
In the past, TFO website used to show details of 9 PM films with calendar where you could see details for a few months past and to come. With new website, I didn't find that option. If anyone finds that in new site, pl let me know. Thanks.

Charulata telecast was field averaged. Obviously, it was from French source. (What's std system in France ?? SECAM or PAL ??) Print was very good. New looking and very bright and good contrast and detail.

Coming Friday (Nov 30, 2007), TFO is showing Satyajit Ray's "Aranyer Din Ratri" (# 12 above post) (French: Des Jours Et Des Nuits Dans La Foret; US: Days and Nights in the Forest).

Telecast has French subtitles, so you need to know either Bangla or French to understand the film. I know neither, but the telecast PQ gives a good indication of remastered DVD quality.
