Mhafner, will the producers of this HD-DVD be releasing a regular DVD downconverted from this HD transfer?

That's the plan. If it's ready. The DVD is coming out when the film plays on German TV so the TV station decides the timing.

Above is about PAL DVD of Lakshya, not HD.
The German PAL DVD of Lakshya is worse than the NTSC. The Swiss is better than German but about the same as NTSC for main film. It's better compressed though and has direct PAL supplements (no PAL NTSC conversion). Swiss DVD only available in Switzerland, not anywhere else. There is no HD available so far. Decision has not been made if some will come. The HD master has issues so achievable quality might not warrant the expenses for a HD disc. Making a new HD master is not an option for technical and financial reasons.
Concerning DCH there definitely will be a HD disc after the PAL is released. Second half of 2007 is most likely.
HD is neither PAL nor NTSC so only region coding can stop you from playing if you have a player for the format of the disc. HD-DVDs have no region codes, BR have but studios can ignore it if they like and there are no contractual obligations to use it. Catalogue titles on BR are usually all region.

Mike, any specific reason you choose HD-DVD over Blu-Ray?

I got HD-DVD player first because of the low price but later I HAD to own PS3 because of several new movies that are being released and mainly for Casino Royale that will be out on March 13th and Gandhi that is expected soon in Europe.

Now, I see several of my friends getting PS3 as it serves double purpose. Makes their kids happy and will be used as Blu-Ray player in their Home Theaters. So, wondering wouldn't Blu-Ray be a better option for Desi as most seem to be brand name customers and Sony is loved by many.

There has been no choice of one over the other. BR has more capacity and higher bandwith. Also more copy protection once BD+ is implemented. But for now it costs also more to make BD50s.
I have the first reel of DCH HD 1080p MPEG2 test stream 'in my hands' right now... :D

I hope one of you guys will help me.

I own a 65" HD-Ready TV with DVI input. I bought this few years ago when big screen tv's started to come out with HD-Ready type. I had no idea at that time about what I was buying and I didn't bother to wait for a good big screen HD TV. Anyway I like to upgrade my DVD Player and I am confused about which Player I should get.

1) Should I get a HD DVD PLAYER and get a HDMI input DVI output cable to connect it to my TV?

I found this HD DVD at Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-HD-A2-HD- ... lectronics

but what is the difference between HD-A1, HD-A2, HD-XA1, and HD-XA2 beside the price difference of almost $500.

Or do you guys suggest that I should wait until I upgrade my TV to a high quality HD TV in the future?

Also I like to know, if you guys don't recommend a HD-DVD player for me then how about the following DVD player?

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... R&v=glance

I heard Blue Ray players don't support Adult movie industry, so I think it will loose the war against HD-DVD player.

Does your TV support HDCP? If not you can't use digital connection for HD discs. If it does HD-DVD and BR players will work via HDMI. If not only via analogue component.

A1 and A2 are first generation. XA1 and XA2 second (more robust, preferable). XA2 has also 24p output (which you can't use with your TV). All are HD-DVD and not BR so you might buy the system that does not survive.

If your TV is HD-ready you will see an improvement from HD sources. The issue is which system to support. If you like gaming I would go for PS3. Even if BR fails and HD-DVD wins (quite unlikely) you still have a gaming system to enjoy.

That's nonsense. Porn will be on both systems and porn does not decide (many online alternatives). Studio support in general and affordable players are king.

Ok, one reserved for you. :D
