According to some recent sales reports HD-DVD and Blu-ray sales are neck and neck at the moment.

BTW http://www.lovefilm.com/ in the UK has started Blu-ray rentals, 32 titles listed at the moment. Also a 90 free trail going if people want to try them.

here in the US recent sales say Blu-ray selling twice that of HD-DVDs. I am not sure if that means anything. It's too early to tell anything but looks like Blu-Ray looks like it will be the content king with so many new exclusives lined-up atleast, early part of this year.

For most Desi's who care (do they??) about HiDef, Casino Royale might give a good reason to jump on Blu-Ray. Or Come May, and the two Disney's can be tempting.

I first jumped on HD-DVD because Toshiba Player's are cheap and couldn't find PS3 easily. Within weeks ended up getting Blu-Ray seeing all the content.

I am smelling that with software, in movies, even not games, and abt a million ps3 sold, blue ray is slowly inching.

Imho, for gaming only XBOX 360 is the best! once u have it then for $200 add on is no brainer!

Ultimate seemd to be a $500 range combo player with good dvd upscaling capability as ps3 and add on, does not upscale, unfortunately!

I hate all of you living in the US and Europe. You guys get to enjoy Blu-Ray (HD) while we in India struggle to get half decent Standard Definition.

urbanlegend - yes im running a HTPC... if u look at the bottom picture.. the bottom device in the middle compartment of the shelving is a HTPC.. its a very nice chasis really.. its indistinguishable from a home cinema amp.....

arsh - as far as my research goes, the samsung does not have any banding issues.. but thats with the sharp.. the known problems with the samsung is back light bleeding and the lack of 1080p across all the inputs.. I did have to flash the firmware to allow 1:1 pixel mapping on the HDMI input.. but alhumdulillah it is fault free.. one annoing niggle with it is the sound on the set.. its bloody abysmal.. it sounds so crap its amazing.. either way im happy with it in general!! as for my xbox, i use vga.. i thought the component is shit...
