Does anyone have any clue to when (or if it already has?) the music of Vishal Bharadwaj's Blue Umbrella will release? I've heard a little bit of it on Trailer Junction on B4U and it sounds fantastic. I've made it a point to watch Trailer Junction whenever it airs on B4U, solely for the glimps of Blue Umbrella. I can't get the 2 minute song preview(with a tad bit of dialogues from Punkaj Kapur thrown in there) out of my system. The promo even states that "Time Music" has picked up the film's music rights and through online research, I've discovered that the film is due out theatrically next friday. I hope this is true, but nowhere I do see any sign of an audio/CD release?

I would suggest you ping AVS for any news on the overseas release of its music. They may know. Their website is http://www.avstv.com

I have heard the music and seen the teaser trailer on Chartbusters(in the USA on SONY). It is indeed intriguing.

The tracks are up at musicindiaonline

I forgot what an amazing soundtrack this was when I watched the film as I was just too bowled over with the film itself. What is Vishal Bhardwaj made of anyway? Brilliant films. Brilliant soundtracks. I'd kill to have just an inkling of his talent.

I agree, soundtrack is GOOD!

IMHO, if VISHAL/GULZAR just concentrate making good (REAL ) children movies, this will be a GREAT ACHIEVMENT!

But first you have to grow out of commercialism and then write/make children films from children prespective!

Thanks hal. Your obviously lucky to have seen the film before it's public release. How would you rate it amongst his other films?

That's what you call a genuine artist.

DvdCollector, out of his 4 films so far, I might have to give "The Blue Umbrella" a slight edge over "Omkara" for his career best - so far. It was a very tough choice. In order, it would have to be,

The Blue Umbrella
Omkara
Maqbool
Makdee

I know you hold high regards for Omkara, Makdee and Maqbool. But, what would you rank as his career best?

Wow. That's something. My thoughts are exactly as yours. Looking forward to another gem.

Makdee was step in right direction, but not quite there! Maqbool was impressive!

addendum!!

Film like BU does not need music in the first place but 3 songs plus background score is excellently done by Vishal imho!

Vishal has come long way in Orchestration, and here he is at any INTERNATIONAL LEVEL composer imho!

Sukhwinder Singh number reminds you of Vishal's niche Pahadi style A LA MAACHIS composition, but nonetheless pleasing! Gulzar's lyrics and Sukhwinder giving GULZAR/VISHAL , Bhupinder run for his money!

For arrangements and Orchestration..A+(Brilliant)

Btw..were all 3 songs included in the film?

With my apologies to AR fans!! here Vishal is looking eye in eye!

BTW!! I was flabbergasted RDB songs nominated for Oscars?? If any it should have been WATER instead!

You guys are forgetting his 'Maachis'. in my book, that is his career best work.

followed by Blue Umbralla and Omkara and the two Ms.

Pure, unadulterated, innocent

By Taran Adarsh, July 31, 2007 - 09:16 IST

Most film-makers bow down to market diktats. A majority of makers cast stars to make their projects saleable. Most opt for subjects that would entice viewers in Gujarat, Bengal, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, Overseas… Keeping everyone happy is their prime motto. Most makers eye box-office, while creativity takes a complete backseat. Nothing wrong if you make movies keeping the aam junta in mind. In fact, I am all for commercial cinema.

But, very rarely, do you come across films that are unadulterated and pure. The intention is to narrate a simple story. Vishal Bhardwaj’s THE BLUE UMBRELLA, based on Ruskin Bond’s novel, is one of those films. Actually, it’s difficult to believe that someone who helmed films like OMKARA and MAQBOOL would direct THE BLUE UMBRELLA, since the focus is not on assorted characters, but a simple umbrella here. While OMKARA and MAQBOOL were serious themes that focused on power play, THE BLUE UMBRELLA is about an exquisite umbrella that catches the fancy of a hamlet in North India.

Bravura performances [Pankaj Kapur, Shreya Sharma], splendid locations [Himachal Pradesh] and simple, yet compelling storytelling [Vishal Bhardwaj] makes THE BLUE UMBRELLA a must-watch for connoisseurs of qualitative cinema… A detailed review of the movie will appear on its release!
