Rahman fights for copyright of his music

"I can't run to music companies every time I need to use my own song, " says the composer

I didnt come to zulm in months and interesting to see this. IR is the only composer who from day 1 had this thing well controlled (mainly he was the "only" composer in his days). The very reason why many of audio companies (including Echo) had to reject taking IR's projects (big loss for them anyways). This is the very same reason why IR is not releasing his first symphony (Sony want exclusive right where as IR as usual argues that the creator own the music and has the right to use it any where, including movies and concerts). Wonder why Rahman didnt do this at his peak time.

from Karen David's blog:

Finally! LOL It's been busy for the team and I...just finished approving artwork for my digital EP release, which I will keep you posted about, as it will be available for downloads very soon! :) I'll also be uploading them up on my site for you to have a preview listen to. You will be hearing the single version of "I Need You" which was mixed by the lovely Celt Islam (check his myspace page out!) and you will also hear the full version of Carry Me Home which I wrote with A R Rahman and had the lovely Bombay Dub Orchestra fellas produce. The third track is another song which I wrote with A R Rahman, called Alive, and is the title song for the Miranda Richardson, Robbie Coltrane, Aishwarya Rai film I acted in, called Provoked. The movie will be coming out end of February. So it's full steam ahead...you guys have been through this journey with me throughout the year, so thanks for always supporting me and sticking around! ;) The album is about 90% done now and we're working on release dates for next year so watch this space...

I looked at the album info on musicindiaonline, and I don't see ARR listed as any of the singers. False rumours??

I see Premji's mug all over it though :?

23rd June, 2009

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) today announced the signing of an exclusive world-wide publishing agreement with Oscar®-winning composer and internationally renowned musician A.R. Rahman.
