If there is a paradise on earth, it is Kashmir. The adage must be true. Stirred by the beauty of the picturesque valley, Majid Majidi, the Iranian director, said he will shoot his next movie in Srinagar.

The idea of making a film in Kashmir, the director said, struck him when he visited Srinagar in 2004.

“It will be a story based on Kashmir. I was surprised by the cultural similarities between Iran and Kashmir. I was moved by the scenic location. Moreover, Kashmir features prominently in Iranian literature and poems,” Majidi said.

The shooting will be held in 3-4 months and the preparations have already begun, he said. Picking Satyajit Ray and Shyam Benegal as his favourite Indian directors, Majidi said he found that India and Iran shared striking similarities and cultural sensibilities

Looking forward to this. No surprises, just wondered when he'll get around to think India. Take a look at "Baran" and "Children of Paradise" two of his best!

I've heard about this diretor but never seen any of his films. He chosw well his favourite Indian directors. Like I've said before the best films and directors to come out of India are the non-bollywood ones...mainly arthouse, though I think Guru Dutt qualifies as "bollywood".
It would be interesting to see what he shows about Kashmir. So far the best film I've seen on Kashmir has been Yahaan.

Then you're in for a treat. I suggest you start with Children of Paradise/Heaven. Then go on to Baran. If you like Baran then look at Daughters Of The Sun ( Director: Maryam Shahriar) both story lines are the same. If I have time I may post some SS for both.
