I just saw it last night, man, I JUST CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT!!!

Oh my god, the story the story the story!!! For all those naysayers out there, Ram Gopal Verma has come up with a story that rivals even the best of Hollywood writers (and every other industry aswell). This film is possibly the best gangster movie ever made - better than Hathyar, better than Vastav, better than Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction and EVEN The Godfather saga.

The acting is incredible with an extremely impressive debut by Vivek Oberoi and some good solid performances by Ajay Devgan and Mohanlal. But as good as the acting is, it just can't come nowhere close to how well the plot is told. Everything is so epic in scope that I swear to god I thought I was watching "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Braveheart". Yes people, it's THAT good!!!

Guys if you went nuts over Lagaan, this one will probably blow your minds away. Hats off to RGV for bringing us this incredible MASTERPIECE!!!!!!

Aaj se poora industry KHALLAS!!!

I loved the film. I wouldnt call it the bestfilm ever because in my book no gangster film is in the top ten. I cannot bring myself to appreciate glamorising the lives of gangsters.

That said, the movie was one of the best I have seen. The movie keeps moving at different speeds and never lets you catch your breath. Yes the film is colorful and the cinemetography and editing are glitzy. But all that is exactly in line with the effect that RGV wants to acheive. Remember that in this film no one is apologetic being in the underworld. The mother is proud of her son being in the underworld and the wife marries him because he is a 'bhai'.

The only negative was Mohanlal's diction. While his acting was superb as usual, his dialogue delivery was difficult to get used to for a long time.

Anyway for Sunny, no film would be great if its not made in tamil and all tamil films would be wonderful. While I wouldnt disagree that Mairathnam's film was very good, the subject matter was boring and difficult to identify with

For me a film works when I don't notice the cinematography or editing while viewing. And during Company I noticed it dispite trying get into the film. The content therefore took a back seat after the technical details, which shouldn't have been the case as the content of the flick was excellent, no doubt about that!

If you wanna see a great gangster flick then watch Triads a Cantonesse flick, or even Heat by Micheal Mann! These films use vivid colours to help tell the story not to showcase the technical aspects.

Also I just don't love south Indian flicks, I also dig Bengali films a lot, which are also far more suprior then present commercial Hindi films content wise, and the recent rise of Marathi social films are also quite decent!

Why the are you guys thinking that anything Tamil is something I like! There has been some really shit Tamil films I have slated (Manjnu, Star, and of course the dam right curldling Red and 100's others! And have always attacked the stars used! its just sad that you've stereotyped me. Never mind I'm still smiling :D

HATYA...starre govinda my friend

Hatyar....Directed by Racist J.P Dutta starred the one and only Sunju baba and Dharmendra....This was a great flick...i watched in the best cinema in Surat back in 1989 when it was released.....We may see it on a digusting dvd soon by ERos as they released this movie on video....either way this was a baard movie

Weird cause Yateem came out around the same time and JP dutta is not known to make two movies at one time...Can someone please tell me if im wrong did JP Dutta direct Hathyar

Which Bengali films are you talking about? The only recent ones I have seen are pathetic carbon copies of 80's Hindi movies - having said that, it's impossible to get hold of new Bengali movies here, so i haven't seen anything brand new.

I think most of you have mentioned what I wanted to say about Company so I will skip on that. But I think we should not compare this movie to any other film at all. This is a truely unique movie. RGV has made a brilliant film, period.

Company is a cool film no doubt but end of the day the message is still crime does not pay. There were no happy ending for anyone except maybe Mohanlal's character...

Yateem, Batwara, and Hathyaar were back to back releases from J.P. Dutta. Yateem came out in 1988, followed by Batwara and Hathyar in 1989. After this, J.P. Dutta next made Kshatriya, which released in 1992.

While Yateem and Batwara had some awesome visuals, and of course Ghulami and Border are excellent films, I feel that Hathyaar is his best film. A rare modern-day film (with a mainly urban setting), Dutta's film had some of the best gangster characters portrayed in Indian cinema up till now. Dharmendra was in fine form, while Sanjay Dutt gave us a career-best performance. Forget Vaastav or Naam, this isthe ONE film that has to be seen by all his fans. We feel for his character every step of the way as he transforms from a rebellious teen into a vicious gangster. Even his eventual downfall was portrayed very well on to the screen (the final scene is especially haunting). A mention also has to be made on Kulbhushan Kharbanda's excellent performance, and also on the awesome background score, featuring some excellent guitar music.

Forget Satya, I feel that prior to Company, the best gangster films ever were Hathyaar and Parinda. Both were just top-class movies!!

hey faddy, we both think alike. Although many consider Goodfellas to be Scorsese's masterpiece, I also feel that Casino is by far the better film, and more epic and ambitious in scope. It perfectly tells the same tale, while glamorizing the more positive aspects of the Mafia. Also, Joe Pesci was MUCH MUCH more awesome in Casino than in Goodfellas.

While speaking of Marty, I think his best film will always be Taxi Driver, followed by Raging Bull, then Casino.

Okay once more here....

Anwar whay do you say JP Dutta is a racist ? Was it cos he made BORDER and that "hurt" the feelings of some folks ?... It all depends on where you are from..I (as an Indian) like his films very much and enjoyed BORDER very much..

Now some facts abt Company .... :-
Based on real life characters... Dawood Ibrahim (based in Karachi :D) and Chhota Shakeel ( in Dubai )

Mohanlal's character based on Crime Buster...Sivanandan ( and he was impressed by the potrayel Mohanlal made in the film!)

Casino is class>Not as good as GoodFellas though, but Scorsese's best work has to be TAXI DRIVER-Classic!!

The best Gangster film has to be SCARFACE/THE GODFATHER!!

I saw Company this weekend and I have two words #$%king awesome.

Much better then I expected and definitely bound to be a cult classic. Too bad Eros has the rights and probably the DVD will suck.
