Looks kind of like Jackie Shroff in Mission Kashmir.

Am I the only one amused by the juxtaposition of RGV and the poster tagline?

finally some good news abt this cast, ramu seems to have kicked katrina out… though I don’t care for sush either, hope ramu goes w/ someone else. also its rumored that ramu might go w/ kajol for basanti, that wld be another terrible choice imo

Kat's got her tongue?

Ram Kamal Mukherjee

The latest update on Ram Gopal Verma Ke Sholay (RGVKS) is that Katrina, who was supposed to play Radha, a role essayed by Jaya Bachchan in Ramesh Sippy's Sholay, is out of the film. Now, the filmmaker is on the look-out for an actor who could fill the void.

The buzz doing the rounds is that Verma has already approached Sushmita Sen to replace Katrina, although her presence in the film is not confirmed. "Sushmita spoke to Ramu, she has also had a narration. And she has promised to get back to him as soon as possible," says our source.

Allegedly, Verma was unhappy with Katrina's diction and asked her to opt out of the film. According to our source, "Ramu wanted Katrina to work extensively on the character which is completely different from Ramesh Sippy's Radha. Katrina was excited about the character, but after reading the script she felt she wouldn't be able to do justice to the role and politely declined it."

When we contacted Katrina, she confirmed that she is no longer a part of Sholay. "I'm not doing the film because the dates are causing too much of a problem. I had signed RGVKS a long time ago, and now all of a sudden the dates have changed, so it isn't working out for me. I am busy with Anees Bazmi's Welcome, Vipul Shah's Namaste London and David Dhawan's Partner, and don't have dates for RGVKS right now. But I do wish Ramu the best," says Katrina.

Did the director have a problem with her diction? "I don't think Ramu would ever have had a problem with my accent. I'm doing roles which need more emphasis on the diction and language. David's films have long dialogues and funny lines, which I have done. So it's completely untrue."

I've lost track of the amount of articles I've read and come away thinking how arrogant RGV comes cross after all the responses and views he has on his own movies – more so with this remake of Sholay. This remake is going to make him tons of money, and that’s all he seems to be interested in.

Add this to the collection…

Ramgopal Verma has got to be the most pompous and arrogant producer/director in Bollywood today. Definately he has made a couple of really great films, but then it has been a long time since he even directed a half decent film and please don't mention Sarkaar, which was the most over rated and dissapointing film of last year. As for the films produced by him, the less said the better. But the way he talks and comes accross in his interviews, one would think he was the greatest gift to Indian cinema.

Yeah, Sarkar was overrated which is why I'm not too much looking forward to Sarkar 2. Though RGV's best films have been his Gangster films, his worst has been his feeble attempt at Horror. I just don't understand how Bhoot was "the film that terrified India". That means India has very low expectations and scare easily especially when it is of Urmila pulling faces.

Not quite, some were actually good. I thought Ab Tak Chhappan was great, D was OK, Ek Hasina Thi was quite good. Of course he makes his mistakes, as with James.

I am just going to say one thing about this subject, and never address it again. Considering the aims of this project (now coupled with these new movie stills) = the worst idea ever green-lit in the history of Bollywood cinema.

god, we are not getting into this again are we

in terms of the films he has directed/produced the guy has given us naach, ab tak 56, d, ek hasina, shiva, main madhuri… all in the last 3 yrs. I defy you to name any other contemporary indian filmmaker who can boast that kind of lineup in their entire careers, let alone just in the last few yrs

now I agree w/ the next guy, that ramu has certainly released some serious duds over the past few yrs - films like sarkar I have really grown to dislike w/ repeated viewings, while films such as gayab, bhoot etc.. I never liked to begin with

but I am definitely willing to look past a few duds if the guy continues to drop gems on a regular basis

Yes I agree, but that's not much to say when most other Indian directors are crap. Ram Gopal Varma was the hope and glory for us, until he came out with the duds. There are only a handful of good directors in "bollywood" or maybe not even that...Farhan Akhtar are u listening?...please don't disappoint

I'm not "getting into" anything, and I'm not naming any directors to try to pit against Varma (not for fear of not being able to, but from lack of interest in the "challenge"). First of all, in listing the few films that you did, you took for granted that they were "accomplishments": this can certainly be disputed. Second, who's to say that churning out a lot of stuff in a (relatively) short period is superior to making some great films over a longer time?

I think the point that some people are making is simply that (they feel) Ram Gopal Varma has seriously decayed as a film-maker over the past several years.
