it released on the 14th in AP.

The first impulse is to compare to the original. Quick reply – nowhere there.

This one is still worth a watch if you are a Varma fan. Like we said, it’s another serving of the standard dish.

They like it, but they don't like it

Going by the trailer and it's audio/ video quality, film can't be as bad as it's reviews. To me, a good DD 5.1 sound, like the trailer, with just 15 min of what's in trailer is Paisa Vasool.
It's Hindi version is not showing in town but its Tamil version sure will be screened in DTS theatre. I sure will catch it there even though I don't understand Tamil.

For those of you in London, the UK premiere of Shiva will be shown today (Saturday) at Curzon Soho as part of the Firecracker film festival. Both Ram Gopal Varma and Mohit Ahlawat will be there for a Q & A with the audience...I wonder if he'd answer questions on the Sholay remake?

Ab Tak Chhappan was shown on Friday and went down well with the mainly non-indian audience.

watched the sat night show, and really enjoyed this one. went over a handful of reviews before going to see this, and the poor response the film garnered had really lowered my expectations for this. fortunately however, I was in for a pleasant surprise. ramu here w/ shiva tries his hand at heroic bloodshed cinema, and makes a fast paced hard-boiled crime/drama easily superior to ramus last directional outing sarkar. much like james, the film remains action heavy but the script is much tighter and more engaging.

the lead pair work well - nisha is absolutely smoking in this :) , while the usually wooden mohit surprisingly also impresses. but the show stealer hands down is upendra limaye as a arun gawli spin-off … hope to see him in more ramu films. zakir hussain is good as a corrupt cop. and gangster cutney from malaysia is the most hilarious character eva!! if he doesn’t sweep all the comic awards this yr, it’ll be a travesty

2 of the 3 ir songs in the film work well. both dheemi dheemi and saara yeh aalam are picturized really well by ramu, though the first song chor police looks pretty silly and unneeded in the film. the background score is superb though. cinematography by amal neerad is also standout. definitely recommend this

shiva to be remade in tamil??

Maddy or what?

Subhash K Jha

Actor Madhavan and Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have a common affinity to Ram Gopal Varma's new action flick Shiva.

Madhavan saw the film and he's eager to adapt it into Tamil and cast himself in the lead. Says Madhavan, “It's a very old-fashioned cop-on-the-rampage-against-corruption story in the tradition of Zanjeer and Shool. I see great potential of taking it outside the Hindi belt. After I saw the film I asked Ramu if I could adapt the film into Tamil.”

Ramu, on his part, has asked to see what script modifications Madhavan would like to make. “Shiva is being dubbed into Tamil and being released next week, so no point in a straightforward remake. But I like Maddy's idea of adapating it into Tamil,” says Ramu.

Meanwhile, CM Nitish Kumar took time off and watched the film with his entourage of ministers and top police officials of Bihar.

Thanks for the review. I had reservation after seeing all reviews online (indiaglitz is the worst. they rated very well for Telugu shiva but worst for hindi shiva, so i had confusion as to watch hindi version or telugh version or even worst wait for Tamil dub) but this is encouraging. I will check out hindi version itself.

BTW IR used "mandram vandha thendralukku" song from Mouna Raagam (IR-MR combo) in Amitabh *ing Cheeni Kum. This also has all vintage IR resurfed! I am wainting for this album now!!!

No. I'm hoping the film will be screened at the LA Indian film festival next year. I highly doubt they will. I'm going to wait it out though. I know I won't like the film as much if I don't watch it at a nice theater.

I posted a message about my horrid experience at iDream's forum. No response yet from Vasu of KAD/iDream. It was because of their screening of telugu movie Stalin that they didn't screen Shiva. I settled for Stalin, but I didn't settle for the shitty sound. I walked out, they were unwilling to refund 4 tickets. Not going to an indian movie after that, unless it is being hosted by credible people (IFFLA, Hollywood theaters).

So he has remade Shiva. But what happened to his James remake? I remember hearing how he was shocked and angry at the way James turned out and that he was going to remake the film 'the way it should be' with him directing.
