Bollywood is definitely progressing when it comes to technology. In the recent past, a couple of films have been shot in sync sound. It saves the artists the trouble of dubbing. More over, the expressions are natural, since the voices are recorded on location. Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai and Kal Ho Na Ho are some of the movies that have had sync sound. The next movie, to join the ranks of these movies is Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

The film boasts of a star cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukherjee among others. The shooting for the movies has commenced. However, since the last few days, AB senior has been suffering from viral fever. The film being shot in sync sound, would have suffered. But AB, being the true professional that he is, has made sure that he manages, anyhow. Now they don’t call him the ultimate superstar for nothing, do they?
i just wish they dont use the guy who did the sync sound for khnh it was terrible i wouldnt mind if they use the guy who did dch since it sounded better

Sync sound does not sound as great as studio-recorded sound, especially on DVDs... where you feel a need to boost up the speech speaker in a 5.1 setup.

If you play the Dil Chahta Hai DVD you will know what I mean. You will also notice a peculiar "resonance" in sync sound which sounds artificial. It's like someone is speaking through a steel pipe.

I guess they have to attenuate the frequencies so that any other noise can be removed...

I think sync sound on Indian films is a great development but there is still a lot that needs to be improved. For one thing, it's important to record room tone so that different takes can match. One thing I noticed in KANK, as much as I enjoyed the film, was that in some scenes, you can literally hear the background noise change from shot to shot even though the scene is supposed to be in the same room. Also, there shouldn't be too much of an echo with the dialogue placement center. We know that in Hollywood films, you can hear the dialogue as clear as it would be if the film was looped in later. Still aways to go, but just to record actors actually reading their lines live, I believe is necessary.

That just means they haven't mastered the technique yet. HW films are much better with sync sound.

IIRC Saathiya and Lagaan sounded pretty good. Don't remember about Yuva.
