Fellow Zulmies don't take this personally but you lot amaze me sometimes. While DEI have some issues to resolve they are not as bad as others in the game of Indian DVD. I'm surprised that no-one here is just as devoted to make sure EROS, Video-Sound or even Tips hears our complaint. Why I haven't heard anyone be just as bitchy to the other companies. Once upon a time I was always bitching to all of these companies but now I don't even bother as DVD fans and simply consumers aren't intrested at all about quality they just wanna watch the film.

mhafner why don't write a list of what EROS or even Ayngaran should do to improve quality? After all they reach the mainstream DVD audience in the market, while DEI reaches a niche market.

Kudos to DEI who are at least listening to us, even if any of your don't agree with them :) but shouldn't you Zulmies get others to do the same?

If I have come on too strong then I do appoligise but I just had to let it out.

You only complain to someone who you still have some faith in. Just as Bhaskar has pointed out, Eros, Video Sound, YRF etc are lost causes or atleast I have lost all hope in them. Whereas with DEI, I used to hold them in high esteem and I don't anymore, even then I have not lost complete faith in them yet. But if their attitude and product continues to be like it has been lately, then I guess I might stop complaining about them too, ofcourse I would stop buying their product too and my signature would include their name in it.
I can still remember a time, when I used to write to Sandish about DEI DVDs with praise and constructive criticism and at times with suggestions too. Sandish would write back to me personally and on more than one occassion actually used my suggestions. But now it ain't like that. Not even a reply from him anymore and when I do get a reply, it is always with some sorry excuses and blatant lies to cover up their mistakes and new found disdain for the customer.
By the way, allow me to point out one more important thing. DEI is primarily a DVD authoring and distributing company and therefore unlike Eros, Video Sound or YRFilms, who are all primarily distributors of films, they have a bigger stake in making a niche in the DVD market so as to survive in the long run. DEI is to Indian DVDs what 'Criterion' is to the English DVD market. Alright, Alright. Well somewhat like them. :)

Just to point out folks, I agree with what Sanjay Has...I was and still am a big FAN of DEI but they claim something and then are not able to deliver the goods (the most recent being the EVP dvd catalogue fiasco...Pls guys why do you have to state it unless you dont have it confirmed...)

Okay now here is an interesting observation. I will be posting screenshots from further YASHRAJ DVDs. Till now their films were being raped by that lousy stinking arse company called SUPERDIGITAL...

Enter Prasad digital video who have given us a welcome and refreshing change in YRF DVD quality and I just hope that this is the trend. I have establised the claims with Insaaf ka Tarazu and Pati Patni aur Woh ( a review which I will do very shortly). I will also check out if their authoring of Ek Duje Ke Liye and Milan are also on par with their Pati Patni Aur Woh standards. If that is the case then I must really say that all is not lost with YRF. They have good films ( the best catalogue in town). All they need to do is to chuck out Superdigital from raping their DVDs.

Actually there was no serious competition for DEI , till now. But all that may change if the change at YRF continues for sometime ! Lets see what happens. !

I think that this is very true with the average Indian individual. And let me also add that, most people would assume that the fact that a film is on "DVD", it must have superior quality in all means, while highly overlooking the thought of weather they could be right or wrong?

I complained to Eros at least twice. Wrote Ayngaran once.
Eros is a lost cause. You might as well talk to a brick
wall.
The public gets what it asks for. Indian DVDs will be
awful as long as customers put up with this kind of
quality. Every company understands the language of money
and sales. Speak in that language. If enough people
join you things will change.
I hope globalisation will do the trick as more people
used to Western quality standards get intersted in buying
Bollywood films on DVD and new companies enter the picture.

Why don’t we complain about other Indian DVD companies??

The answer is simple.
WE HAVE GIVEN UP ON THEM. They all are incompetent. There is no hope, whatsoever from them. DEI is the only hope and we try our best to, point out, constructively, the minor flaws in their DVDs.

DEI DVD has been reviewed in Widescreen Review. Other Indian DVD makers DVDs are miles away from even being considered for a review in Widescreen Review.

I concur with RANA, that DEI is indeed one of the companies which looks into this issue (customer criticism - constructive of cos) with a professional tone to it. I would just say guys, be a lil bit discreet abt making personal attacks on Folks here . It doesnt help in anyway, and it is definately bad PR.

Okay a mixed bag of news :-

Angoor Fans :- The negative is damaged and hence the DVD release has been delayed. Should get back to you with more news the next time around

Released DVDs / Upcoming releases
------
An evening in Paris and other EVP DVDs are coming out ( sorry abt my last post and Sandish also regretted that piece of info as it wasnt him that quoted it ). Should be there @ IW / ICDS later this week !

Justice Chowdhary (Monday - March 25th )

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (Friday - 29th) - Disclaimer (as mentioned by Sandish ) - Not to expect any remastering by DEI. The master used by EVP has been used here with the only added feature being - subtitles. !

Enjoy !

New updates :-

1.) SHAHENSHAH (Amitabh) has been picked up by DEI...so expect it also as a DEI release

2.) DEI will be releasing an Amitabh Songs DVD. For that it needs the arrival of a couple of Amitabh film prints (and hence the films will be released first and they include ... Yaarana, Sanjog, Parvarish !)....

3.) Yeh Dil Aashiqana: Kuku Kohli :: Phool Aur Kaante:Kuku Kohli ( hmmm now does that sound familiar !)...well DEI ...(you take a guess)

4.) For Shammi Kapoor fans.. Professor will be releasing ASAP ( and then I can get a chance to get rid of my shitty VideoSound copy !)

5.) No info on Pakeezah arsh bhai :)

6.) Expect Faddy's NUDE show within 2 weeks as the DTS soundtrack version of TKBP to be released by then...

Just saw the review of DEI's AN EVENING IN PARIS by sknath. Looks like a great print. Let's hope DEI promissed titles keep rolling in this quality.

Rana

P.S.
BTW the subtitles in the screen caps show a word by word translation instead of the meaningful translation (like BBC).

I actually remember Justice Chaudhury and I'm pretty sure there's no lesbianism in there :keh: ;

"A young lady Ramu falls in love with Kailasnath's daughter (Sridevi)."

…to call that synopsis a joke is an understatement. Somone please help them out :bored:
