"Beckham" director doing "Dallas" By Borys Kit

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Bend It Like Beckham" director Gurinder Chadha is in talks to take the helm of "Dallas," a big-screen version of the '80s primetime soap.

Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, John Travolta and Shirley MacLaine are in various stages of discussions to be cast in the 20th Century Fox movie.

Chadha would take over from "Legally Blonde" director Robert Luketic, who has moved on to "21," a Columbia project based on Ben Mezrich's best-seller "Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions."

In addition to putting Keira Knightley on the map with "Bend It Like Beckham," Chadha also directed the America-meets-Bollywood movie "Bride & Prejudice."

Bend It Like Beckham helmer Gurinder Chadha is close to signing a deal to direct 20th Century Fox and New Regency's big screen version of Dallas, reports Variety. She replaces Robert Luketic, who fell off the project over creative issues.

Jennifer Lopez, Luke Wilson, John Travolta and Shirley MacLaine will star.

The script was written by Robert Harling, with drafts by Sacha Gervasi. Series creator David Jacobs is producing the film with Michael Costigan.

Chadha is also directing another TV adaptation, Sony's I Dream of Jeannie.

I wonder what Ms Chadha knows about Dallas? Has she even seen any episodes?

Not looking forward to this. At the moment Chadha is butchering a remake of a Korean film - My sassy girl. The Korean film was very good, I have little confidence in Chadha's remake.
