the new 2 disk set for baghban is really crap. like the mhn dvd, there are many layer changes, so there are many pauses.

It's not layer changes, it's disc rot in MHN DVD. When I rented MHN, I did check for play location, whether on layer 0 or layer 1. Play location didn't jump from layer to layer, just read/ play problem.

nothing shocking about liking the movie, shocking in a way that no one buys originals and here I have bought the originals of one movie twice

the movie itself is very good and I have seen it many times (Shemaroo DVD) ..

‘Baghban’ is a lovely, warm story with a social message- a family character study of the inextricable personal commitments among grown-up children and their aged parents. It’s a weepy, slow-paced venture that also has good acting and nice songs. Hema and Amitabh are great together. Salman brings humanity to his role giving a restrained and natural performance.

I think its one of the worst films to have come out this decade. The film purposely pictures a pretty cynical painting of the newer generation of people. We aren't given any domestic sociogenic history as to why the kids in the family turned out the way they did; was there a cause of earlier domestic violence? abuse? neglection? et al. Which led to film's foregoing conflict. In most cases in such situations, it's the parents who fail to stabilize the unity within the household.

Is the transfer of the "movie-disc" the same?

I, too, have to say, I loved Amitabh Bachchan's work in Baghban, and its songs were great — it even had a really compelling story — but the film, altogether, was just horrible. I was surprised when it went on to become the "super hit" that it did. The dialogues and characterization were simply ridiculous, and the plot was about as antiquated as one might dare to imagine. Man, I hope Babul's a hell of a lot better than Baghban.
