Didn't know "Smarties" not avail in USA.
Another product not avail in USA or even in England is "Tetley Tea" as they used to advertise with "Pitty" phrase.

So, you want Smarties and Arsh gets Tetley??

BTW, I'll try to get ARR Dubai concert DVD by VS as well. Hoping it to be as good. If yes, I may even like it better as it has "SAPNAY" songs.

Has anyone else found that ARR concerts on DVD are dubbed from the original tracks? It's as if many of the songs are not sung live, but lip-synced. On one of the DVDs, I remember Rahman singing "Dil Se Re" in one of his concerts and there is no way he could have sung that well live--it sounded EXACTLY like the CD version. So, are these songs lip-synced when performed live, or are they dubbed over when producing the DVD?

Tetley is available in California for as long as I could remember. Infact, historically they have sponsored the hit game shows Wheel of Fortune, Jeopordy, Price is Right. Dunno if they still do :)

btw, Tetley sucks. I prefer Twinnings! Send arsh the Tetley, and the smarties my way :D

Title A R Rehman Live Tour USA (Released by Saregama)
Description USA Tour 2000
Director
Brand/Distributor Saregama
Genre Songs
Subtitles 5.1 Dolby
Category DVD
Features
Year?? (must be 2000)

A.R. RAHMAN IN CONCERT
TOUR USA 2000

I've actually had this disc for quite a few years, but never watched it in a while(even in infact in its entirety) partly because during the balled between Hariharan, S.P.B. , Kavita K. etc. my disc freezes, not only here, I'd have to jump to further chapters and it would also freeze during the final vanda matram, so I gave up on it.

I mentioned the Jagjit Singh concert DVD because I particularly noticed the extra-impressive sound quality it had, unlike other concert DVDs, this one sounds quite clear, distortion free of anykind(atleast I think), and it almost does justice to its actual LIVE stage like effect when turned the volume up on your sound system. That's strange. This RPG disc that I found was on old time Gold Media. Played without a hitch.
BTW, whatever you could watch from this DVD, did you watch it with any decent/ semi-decent 5.1 system?? If you did, what was your impression of the Concert Hall ambience and ground shaking bass??

Sony Jagjit Concert DVD should be good as well. Sony is a reputable name and so is Jagjit Singh who takes extra pains himself to check accoustics and arangements.

Hopefully, arsh will give us screen shots from this RPG disc. But, that's only 30% of the quality indicator. Rest 70% is audio.

How do I check if my disc is/is not "Gold Media"?(Pardon my illiterate DVD knowledge, despite my passion for collecting them).

I was also going through my stack of DVDs to look for this Jagjit Singh Concert DVD and I happen to come across two of them(one of which I can't even remember purchasing "Live In Concert Jagjit Singh - a Tribute to Ghalib"), originally I had thought the two were collaborated in the Singapore Concert DVD. Additionally, the two are bootleg versions I have; the Ghalib tribute DVD is by "DVD World" and the Singapore concert DVD by "Vanilla Music", although the cover looks exactly the same as the one seen on the link I provided earlier.

Experts will have to judge that.

Logically, it makes no sense to get singers/ performers for just one or two songs (tons of singers for a 3 hour show) and hotel them for months in North America, just to show face and play a CD instead. These performers were no Big AB or King Khan that will fill up the stadium just to say hello on stage for 4 minutes.

Moreover, even if audio on DVD is from CD, which I doubt, the concert ambience (audio, with proper time lag, coming from different home speakers) is presented properly.

Just check the underside of the DVD. If it's Goldish, it's Gold, if it's Silver, it is Silver. Check any DEI or Yashraj or any other DL DVD from a few yrs ago against modern day DVDs and you will see the difference.

In our experience, all/ most Double Layer Gold discs (Single Layer Silver is OK) have not rotted even after 3-5 yrs, where as, all/ most Double Layer Silver discs rot anywhere between a week to 2 yrs.

Picked up a few of the Concert DVDs (on rental) mentioned in this thread.
Now I can compare them.

My Compasrative Ratings:

RPG AR RAHMAN in concert -------- 10/10

ORSON Video DREAM GIRLS Live In Concert----------0.1/10

ORSON Video ASHA BHOSLE Live In Concert---------1/10

VANILLA Music LIVE IN CONCERT Lata, Asha, Sudesh, Alka, Udit, Kumar Sanu, Usha----------------------------------------------1.5/10

Vanilla DVD looks copied/ sourced from ORSON, as evident in ORSON logo on the screen, somehow, PQ as well as audio is better??

I had already seen, Hritik live show/ concert DVD, and a few Filmfare awards Strdust awards etc. and they too will rate just about the same aprox 0.5/10 .

Have yet to find some more concert/ LiveShow DVDs for further comparison. Video Sound AR RAHMAN in concert, Jagjit Singh Live in Concert (I have seen one by T-Series on rental shelf).

If you have seen any of the above DVDs and have seen others, you could rate them as per my comparison or as per your own comparative scoring.

This is for Indian DVDs. HW silver DVDs do not have any problem like this.

I'll have to check out this ARR concert DVD. I figured all Indian concert DVDs would be terrible quality.

:( :( :(
All 3 titles I've mentioned earlier are all Sliver media. Rats! I guess this means I've got to atleast get my hands on a Gold media DVD of the Rahman concert.

You're probably OK.
ORSON Video's "Asha live in concert" and "Dreamgirls" DVDs are Single Layer.
Vanilla's "Live in Concert (Asha, Lata, et el) is dual layer. But, you can't expect much from a pirate (ORSON logs are on screen) disc.

Found VS version of ARR Concert in Dubai. It's almost as good as RPG one. Content is understandably different. No Western dancers. DD 5.1 audio is excellent. Backup dancers are not as good though. But, that's concert content, you can't fault audio-video recorder or DVD maker.
It does have excellent SAPNAY songs though that were not in RPG ARR Concert.

I tend to rate it 9/10. But it froze on me 3/4 way.
So, my rating for this VS ARR : 8/10

-----------------

Both ARR Concert DVDs complement each other. There are some repeat items, but there are different items too.
