Good news then. YRF DVD was PAL to NTSC converted and hence field averaged. If this Ultra PAL DVD comes from same master, it must be Progressive by default.

IMDb has Ultra as the film's Indian distributor(hence the PAL DVD). Below is what the cover looks like.

I'm pretty sure it's a DVD. I've seen it in a few stores in the GTA. I just posted the pic earlier because that's how exactly the cover looks like, expect, additionally, on the DVD, at the bottom of the cover, it says things like; special features: Hrithik Roshan live performance, Screen Awards, and Making of the feature. I just didn't bother to pick it up yet since I lack a region free DVD player, plus I already own the Yashraj version of Koi Mil Gaya.

I recently compared the PAL DVD of KMG & the NTSC YRF DVD of KMG on my sister's 10 inch Yahoo R0 DVD player simultaneously and from the looks of it, it didn't seem that the PAL transfer was any superior to the NTSC YRF version. And infact, the sound quality on NTSC DVD seemed more dynamic compared to the PAL edition. The PQ on the two looked very similar and the black bars on the PAL edition were covering a larger portion of the screen compared to the NTSC version. Does my descrpition of the PAL DVD hint towards anything???

are you insinuating that this is NTSC -> PAL, and the black bars are thicker to cover up YRF logo?

or.......

could be this PAL edition is 'wider', which would turn the tables around. YRF cropping out Ultra?

bah, you are making my head ache :P with all your riddles

I own Ultra KMG DVD and it's at my hometown in Punjab... can get details when I visit home. The sound is really nice on Ultra -- I have not seen the YRF version though. Ultra is non-anamorphic widescreen.

About Ultra DVDs -- Several times they incorrectly mention PAL on their covers -- when you play them you realize they are NTSC... not all, but most of them. I think KMG Ultra is NTSC... will check soon.

If I am not mistaken, I didn't see any PAL dvds from Indian companies (Shemaroo, T-series, Ultra etc. etc.), eventhough it's PAL TV system in India.

Eagle have released a few PAL DVDs in India, like Khamoshi and ChaalBaaz. Quality is awful, though.

There are quite a few... for example some Ultra DVDs are actually PAL, then Saregama HMV DVDs (both English and Hindi movies such as "Rog") are all PAL. Indian DVD company Asia Vision (now called Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) have released all their DVDs in PAL in India. A recent Warsi film - waisa bhi hota hai DVD - was PAL too in India. PEN DVDs (never watched them) also appear to be PAL.

Just checked my copy -- yes Koi Mil Gaya Ultra DVD is PAL... damn neat 5.1 audio -- full deep bass and powerful... Ultra DVDs are mostly non-anamorphic but they more than make up in their audio -- good job on the DVD!
