I hope M:K DVD comes with DTS sound.

I seriously doubt it. Korean film Shiri released by Bitwin as dual collectors edition (saw the film last night and is brilliant! ) – is being released by CT with newly dubbed 5.1 English track together with 2.0 surround sound Korean track (although reports suggest that is might be a misprint and will include a 5.1 Korean track). The Bitwin DVD contained the full bit-rate DTS track which CT could have used but unfortunately are not. I doubt MK will have room to include a DTS track. Even with a proper DD5.1 track MK should be brilliant DVD.

Yeah what's up with this news. I don't see Mission Kashmir mentioned here either.
Columbia Pictures - Destination Films News

I wonder what the actual facts are. Maybe we should contact Columbia Pictures (Destination Films) and get a concrete and specific answer as to if and when they are releasing 'Mission Kashmir'

I think enough sources have mentioned Mission Kashmir and CT in the same context now, so it is coming, just don’t know when.

Slightly related note; a positive DVD review of Drunken Master released under the Destination Films line can be viewed here;

"Columbia TriStar plans Mission Kashmir

In recent months, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment has provided many films from its foreign library. The Indian drama Mission Kashmir is now in the pipeline for a June release.
Set in the war-torn Kashmir Valley between 1989 and 1999, "Mission Kashmir" is a story of Altaff, an 11-year-old Kashmiri boy whose family is massacred in front of his eyes by state police hunting a rebel leader. His life is never the same after the deaths, and he is adopted by Inayat Khan, the officer in charge of the raid, and his loving wife Neelima, whose son has just died in a freak accident.
The film will receive a new anamorphic widescreen transfer with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio tracks in both Hindi and English.
Coming June 4th, "Mission to Kashmir" will carry a $29.95 suggested retail price."

There's an ENGLISH DUB? That should make the DVD worth it.

Drama and laughs!

I'm looking forward to dubbed tracked too! It was first mentioned on this thread;

The pre-orders should start appearing on R1 stores soon as is the usual case with official DVD announcements. Hopefully more details should emerge by then on any extras.

"Mission Kashmir

From: Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 18, 2002

Mission Kashmir Acclaimed Indian Action Drama about Mission Conceived with Courage Debuts Videocassette and DVD on June 4

Culver City, CA (03/18/02) - On June 4, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment will release the award winning film Mission Kashmir on videocassette and DVD. This beautifully shot film from India combines action and drama with a story that shows the conflicts of emotions that embraces man's inhumanity and the power of true love that conquers all.

Mission Kashmir was named Best Action Film at the 2001 Filmfare Awards, India's equivalent to the Academy Awards. It stars India's acclaimed talent Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Jackie Shroff and Sonali Kulkarni.

Synopsis Set in the war-torn Kashmir Valley between 1989 and 1999, Mission Kashmir is a story of Altaff (Roshan), an 11-year-old Kashmiri boy whose family is massacred in front of his eyes by state police hunting a rebel leader. His life is never the same after the deaths, and he is adopted by Inayat Khan (Dutt), the officer in charge of the raid, and his loving wife Neelima (Kulkarni), whose son has just died in a freak accident.

Altaaf's idyllic life with his new parents is shattered, however, when he discovers that the man whom he now calls his father is also the task-force leader who brutally gunned down his family. Fleeing Kashmir, the boy grows up under the tutelage of Hilal Kohistani (Shroff), a brutal militant leader dedicated to a jihad seeking the independence of Kashmir.

After ten years, Altaaf returns as Hilal's instrument of destruction on a mission of annihilation, revolution and revenge. Unexpectedly, he reunites with Sufi (Zinta), a beautiful long-lost childhood girlfriend, and finds himself torn between love and hatred, brutality and humanity, forgiveness and vengeance in this thrilling action adventure where the past meets the present to decide the future of a nation.

Seems like heading the Lagaan route with very few real extras, not that I care much for extras :p Should be an excellent disc once it appears, I hope Colombia do the songs menus this time.

I wonder if the UK PAL release will become a two disc set like Lagaan :baaa:

There is still time before the DVD release for us to write to Columbia and ask for a song menu to be included.

Menu Preview from DVD angle

Intresting to note that the extras that was once upon a time comfirmed by DEI are not mentioned (the infamous kissing scene?) - but I'm pleased that the film is finally seeing the light. However I do have one complaint: Instead of getting a "Dubbed" english soundtrack, I would rather have the film presented in a high avarage bit rate with its original 5.1 soundtrack only :) Quality is all that matters.
