Sanjay, your thoughts on Saif and Preity?
Both are competent in their roles but nothing extra ordinary on either part. Actually the film overall does not provide the scope for any extra ordinary performances. You can rest assured that neither is going to win any National Awards for the film, but then again the way the National Awards have been going lately, specially after the Saif win for Hum Tum, you can never be too sure.

My thoughts below may contain some spoilers

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I saw this film a few days ago, it is, without question, one of the year's worst Hindi films. Aditya Chopra might be the smartest businessman working in Bollywood right now, his recent past productions(and upcoming ones) evidently shows his unconscious aim to Hollywoodize the Mumbai film industry or the Yashraj Films banner. But when it comes to the application of cinema as an art form, he knows zlitch. I assume that Salaam Namaste is geared towards generation X, liberal thinking, NRI, cohabitation living populace. Sure it is, it also sounds very unorthodox. Is it? Halfway through the film, once we've seen a half naked strip show at a christan style wedding, an interracial marriage, Saif & Preity locking their lips a few times together. The film turns melancholic with Priety becoming accidently pregnant and thus leads the unmarried couple to decide for an Abortion. It seems by this point in the film that situations are at a peak of complications with a major issue that itself is highly unorthodox. However, from here on, the film consciously becomes too cliched, if not, easy minded in dealing with a complex issue such as 'abortion'. I don't argue against the film's solution towards the problem. I feel that the filmmaker's applied quick solutions towards the issue without having it absorbed towards a maximum potential reach for a daul cinematic impact on oneself and it's viewer. At the end, when all is said and done, I'm left with a big sense of emptiness.

Plus, if Adi really wanted to be "unorthodox" with this film, he would have shown us Preity Zinta's nipple(s). :o

Ouch DVDCollector. That's quite a review. Now, I'm not sure whether I should catch this flick or not. Anyway, what are your thoughts on Saif and Preity in the film? Were they as awful as the film itself?

Everyone in the film(except Javed Jaffary) sucked.

its out of theatre already. they will delay the dvd as much as they can to create hype, just like the way they did B&B.

DVD Collector

Is it worst than B&B. To me B&B is the worst ever hindi movie produced

Haven't seen Bunty Aur Bubali yet, I'm not really interested in seeing it either, but I really like the "Kaghra Ray" song from the film.

Just came back from SN. And, on a rare occasion, I have to disagree with DVDCollector. SN is a solid, funny entertainer with Saif Ali Khan (really in his element here - much more so than HT) and Preity Zinta (tends to go slightly overboard but effective as well) giving endearing, noteworthy performances as the protagonists. Not to mention they share an amazing camraderie and rapport with each other. On a side note, I have to say that out of all the recent Yashraj films, this is one film that you probably shouldn't take the young ones to as there are sexual references as well as sexual content.

The supporting players lead with some fine support although Abhishek's entry might make a few people cringe with disdain. Ditto for the respective employers of Preity and Saif who are just mere caricatures. Cinemaotgraphy is up to the mark wonderfullly capturing Austrailia. Music and BGM by V-S is horrific with the sole exception of "Tu Jahaan". Siddharth Anand makes a decent debut with SN though he does have quite a few lessons to learn behind the camera.

Some will love or like SN because of the (somewhat) different theme, the notable performances by the leads as well as the minor characters, etc., Some will hate it because of its major Western appeal and of course the unnecessary finale lifted straight from its Hollywood predecessor, "Nine Months". There are other illogical aspects thru some portions of the film but all in all, strictly as an entertainer, I really liked SN much more so than the mediocre, carbon copy of WHMS, "Hum Tum".

Don't go in expecting a groudbreaking piece of cinema and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

7/10
