Relax, I'm not saying that "Veer-Zaara" is Yash Chopra's best film; I'm asking which you think is. Also, who here thinks that "Veer-Zaara" is getting just a little too much credit at every (yes, every) major awards show, this year. I didn't hate the film or anything, but it wasn't exactly the best of 2004. Shah Rukh Khan, too — who I indeed deem a great (yeah, great) actor — is receiving much undue adulation for his role in this film. Khan has turned in some excellent performances during his career, but his work in "Veer-Zaara" is not much beyond the typical. Rani Mukherjee — who was brilliant in this year's "Black" — also seems to be (undeservingly) walking away with every award under the sun. These awards ceremonies, if they're to be taken at all seriously, need to begin being less like popularity contests, and more like acknowledgements of actual success. Getting back to Yash Chopra, I think he's made some of the finest films in Indian cinema ("Deewaar," "Trishul," "Kaala Patthar," "Silsila," "Darr"), but I found "Veer-Zaara" to be about as contrived a film as one might, in one's mind, conjure. Personally, I'm stunned to see that Chopra — who has always made novel and unique films — is to-day regarded as the "king of romance." Given, he has produced several "romantic" films, but I consider the director, not the producer, to be the one who's to be credited for what a film is. There were myriad other better choices for the major awards this year: My own picks might be as follows: Best Actor: Amitabh Bachchan for "Dev," or Shah Rukh Khan for "Swades"; Best Director: Ashutosh Gowariker for "Swades"; Best Film: "Dev"; Best Actress: Shilpa Shetty for "Phir Milenge"...worst film of the year: "Kaun Hai Jo Sapno Mein Aaya?" Anyway, anyone have any thoughts on the matter/s?

Isn't that the case EVERY year? All the "popular" films get all the awards, regardless of quality.

Veer Zaara, Yash Chopra's Best? Anyone who says that has gotta be kidding. I would rate Veer Zaara somewhere around number 5 from the bottom on Yash Chopra's list of films.

Yash Chopra's five worst films:
1. Parampara
2. Vijay
3. Faasle
4. Mashaal
5. Veer Zaara

LAMHE is my favorite Yash Chopra movie. After DARR Yash Chopra didn't direct anything new or different.

Uh, did you read my post, or just its title? I not once said that Veer-Zaara is Yash Chopra's best film. In fact, I'd rank it as one of his worst (successful) ventures. Top 5 (in no particular order):

"Deewaar"
"Trishul"
"Kaala Patthar"
"Darr"
"Silsila"

I'd rate Deewaar and Kaala Patthar as the top two Yash Chopra has ever done. I doubt if anything will come close to these two movies from his film factory.

My favorite YR film is definitely Kaala Pathar and it's one of his most underrated too, since everyone always runs of Deewar, Trishul, Silsila, etc. as his best ones.

My choices:

1. Kaala Patthar
2. Deewar
3. Ittefaq
4. Darr
5. Trishul

Kabhi Kabhi is overrated, but Waqt was a good film.

Veer Zaara is definitely not amongst Yash Chopra's worst films. It's not exactly his jewel either (as I precieved it to be when I initially saw it), now it's just soo metanarratively whatever.

Yes, I'd like to add "Ittefaaq" and "Waqt" to my list of "Yash-Chopra Greats." I think "Kabhi Kabhie," too, belongs there (it's a masterky made film); it's just not one of my favorites. I think "Veer-Zaara" is better than "Dil To Pagal Hai," but it's still, certainly, one of his less-than-stellar (financially-) successful films.

Daag was great hit in 1973 and the acting of Shrmila Rakhee and Rajesh was just brilliant
