What is the availability of the following types of IR albums on CD:

1) Tamil film soundtracks released by companies other than Echo/OR (AVM, Pyramid/RPG, Lahari, etc.) aside from releases from the last 5 or 6 years?

2) Film soundtracks in Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi

Also, does OR have any plans to release more albums on CD?

Pyramid has a 3 DISC IR collection. I will post SS so you know the song list.

RPG unfortunately doesnt have much IR collection. same with AVM.

Lahari and Echo has a huge collection.

OR is busy in creating their own symphony:) They recently release thirukkural in audio format. Good one,but kids wont understand. Its for us, specially if you recall the peom.

ProjectGem in bangalore is trying to release IR collections in CD format. Lets hope they do their best!

Anytamil.com seems to have a decent collection, with titles like 16 Vayadhinile, Annakili, Dalapathi, that I have not seen other places. Most of IR's early stuff would be with RPG, and so would whatever Pyramid had. But I guess they have not majorly rereleased/repackaged them like they have with ARR's albums.

RPG has little less than 50 titles, compared to more than 800 movies that IR scored in Tamil. RPG has lot of MSV though.

Check out RPG titles at http://www.hamaracd.com. You can create custom CD too.

Its nice that someone actually carrying IR titles. Here since the time we started business, Tamil CD is at its low. Distributors told me that they used to sell between 10 to 15 thousand CDs of each title in USA, and now they cant sell even 500. The best CD that they sold in recent years are Boys (more than 1000), Chandramukhi (more than thousand) and Thiruvasakam (more than 4000). Rest of the CDs are well below 500 mark. ARR still has a good market, but unfortunately his songs are wasted in movies like New, KKS etc, so the selling power is goind down.

We are seeing a new generation coming up, who are willing to buy anything from Vijay / Ajith movies, so once Rajni and Kamal slows down a little bit (retire!) then the business for these actors should pick up.

4000+? It's got to be more than that!

Business will never pick up. You know why?? Internet Piracy! People think it's their birth right to leech other peoples intellectual property. I can understanding Sampling, but how many people actually just "sample"? Most people d/l an album, then never pay a dime for the album!

Anyway, I'm probably going to India later this year, December? I'm going to try to get as many IR albums as I can! I will try to visit Project-GEM. I don't have most (if not all?) of what's listed at their website.

If any of you 3 guys are interested, I'll take requests list. See if I can get them for you. You can reimburse me later :P

BTW, most of the solder Ilaiyaraaja telugu cd's are released by Oriental Records and Sea Records. There are still many classics yet to be released to CD

Ok Guys - here is a site (reliable but expensive) - http://shrimatis.com/

IMO they have the max # of illayaraja cd's in continental United States and carry some pretty rare stuff. The only downside is that their website is little screwy, I have ordered from them before and I did receive the order (authentic cd's and not dupes or recorded stuff).

Download their catalogue and look for titles you want, there is a good chance they will carry it.

Enjoy

In all honesty my brother knows more on how to use this website than me and i simply let him do the ordering. From what i gather

1) Use IE
2) Search , Search and Search again till you find the title
3) Adding to the cart is a big headache , you need to find the title and then only you will see add-to-cart button!

I use(d) Firefox then switched to IE <--like i say its not perfect but i think its worth it. Maybe calling them is easier ( once you know the title you want).

I have used it with IE 6 and Firefox ( seems to work better with IE ). Maybe you need to get the latest Java Patches . I dont know about Ramana Geetham but i "think" they carry Geetanjali , let me know if that true ( could be the movie geetanjali !) .

Very expensive, but I think we must pay the price since they are keeping a good collection. This is probably the best collection I have seen.

Yes DU - very expensive but i broke down and paid the price for some of the cd's. It will be ages before someone actually releases these "rare" cd's ! . Even in chennai i could not get hold of some the films on orginal audio-cd ( hell they did not even carry Hey Ram !) . I am proud to say i now own about 50 % of his collection 8)

Not with me. Checkout the guy that dvdisoil mentioned. He might have it. Nizhalgal is a MUST have for any music lovers. I might have Illamai Kaalangal. Will come back to you on that.

Nizhalgal appears on Hamaracd.com, so it must be an HMV/RPG title. I don't know how they've handled their Tamil 80s titles, but they often edit their older ones

I found some IR LP records on eBay today. They're kind of expensive at GBP 9.99 (about US $18 ) though. I'm not selling them, so its not spam :D

Scroll down.

collectors items!!!!!! drool!! drool!!

can I find these for less in India?? I'm afraid by the time I can afford to pay for these, they might not be in stock. $18.99 + Shipping costs from UK on used goods. I guess the seller knows there are some suckers like us on the internet ;)
