Wow must be happening after a long time in tamil cinema - cant remember the last film that ran for 100 days, though the more i think about the film the more i loath it .

BTW - i saw Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo and instantly saw Chandramukhi's inspiration from the story of Corlotta ( dual personality, posession etc. )

http://imdb.com/title/tt0052357/plotsummary

Plot Summary for
Vertigo (1958)

San Francisco police detective Scottie Fergusson develops a fear of heights and is forced to retire when a colleague falls to his death during a chase. An old college friend (Gavin Elster) hires Scottie to watch his wife Madeleine who has reportedly become possessed by her ancestor's spirit named Carlotta. Scottie follows her around San Francisco and is drawn to Madeleine and her obsession with death. He unwittingly becomes a figure in a complex plot, and is determined to discover the truth behind it all.

I have not seen Chandramukhi yet, but I have Manichitrathazhu waiting for me to watch it. I hear it is pretty good.

I didn’t see much hitch inspiration myself.. it seemed more ‘bhoot’/‘raat’ to me -

a married woman moves into a new house (urmi/rawati/jo), gets possessed by a spirit of a woman who once lived in that house . they try a shrink to help her out (victor/anant/rajni). yet they ultimately need a more spiritual source to solve the problem (rekha/om/and that guy form cm)

though wasn’t this a remake of a malayalam film - manichitrataazhu - which was also not surprisingly made a year after ‘raat’

randeep hooda will star in the hindi - http://in.news.yahoo.com/050608/57/5yvk9.html

and ravi teja will star in the telugu - http://idlebrain.com/news/2000march20/ramgopalvarma-chitchat2.html

I like both randeep and ravi so I will be looking forward to this

Sometime in 2004 I read an interview of Raj Kumar Santoshi. He mentioned that he watches Tamil films, and that he was going to direct a film for Sivaji Productions. Does this mean that he might have directed Chandramukhi?

You mean ghost directed? Or did you mean is he going to direct Chadramukhi in Hindi? The Hindi version is not by Sivaji productions

I found the answer...sort of.

Talking of stories, what do you think of "Chandra Mukhi," the new Rajini film?

I haven't heard it in full but from what I learnt through director Vasu and Sivaji's son Ram Kumar, I think the film will be an exciting one. It would be a landmark film for Rajnikanth also. His fans are going to love it. I am glad that Sivaji Productions is doing a film after a long gap.

Will you do a film in Tamil or Telugu?

I am keen to do a Tamil film. In fact, the opportunity has come now and I am going to do a film for Sivaji Productions. I think we will start the shooting the middle of next year. I love Tamil cinema. I am also an ardent fan of MGR.

Chandramukhi creates waves in Japan
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, December 03, 2005]

Ever since Muthu made an impact with the Japanese, Rajnikanth has been a popular figure there.

The news from the Nippon land is that Rajni starrer Chandramukhi has been welcomed in a big way when it got released there a few days ago.

The movie was screened at Ropongi Hills in Tokyo to a packed house.

Having a capacity of 250, there were only eight Indian viewers. The rest of the crowd comprised Japanese.

Dressed in Rajni T-shirts and showing Baba mudra, the crowd was thrilled by the fight and song sequences in the movie. On seeing the overwhelming response, the distributor of Chandramukhi in Japan has promised the fans to release Shivaji, the next Rajni-starrer on the same date of release in Chennai. Meanwhile, adding one more feather in Rajni's crown, he is all set to be part of a French film. French filmmaker Alain Chabat for his French film Rent a Wife has used a martial arts sequence from Rajnikant's Tamil film Muthu (1995) for his movie.

Kudos to Rajnikant and the film "Chandramukhi". Sure, it is not as good as its Malay counterpart, but for a commercial Indian film, I felt it did play its part in entertainment factor (much more then morbid films like No Entry or Babli Aur Bunty).

The original Malay film is worth the watch, and I hope the Hindi version will look to that version rather then the Tamil version that catered only to Rajini Fans - a major reason why some did not like it.

I was surprised by Japan's response, since they currently produced the best horror films in the world. The film was also big in Indonesia and Malaysia too. The film is due for release in South Korea, and Taiwan (a first for an Indian film).

We are the first one to sell Chandramukhi CD online in the globe (got them 2 days before the official launch of the CD in India). Our first order came from Japan. They were bunch of Japanese people who happened to be Rajni fans and have their "fan club" in Japan and they ordered 25 CDs. I used to see the news of Rajni's craze in Japan and that was clearly evident!

Honestly only KH fans may not have liked this movie. This is a movie that is truly "rocking". It not only made huge collection but also turned the "home sitting - vcd watching" crowd to theatres and all the theatre owners are now happy. Even crappy films are running for 50+ days in Tamilnadu. Credit must be given to CM (Jayalalitha - not chandramukhi!) for her strict law enforcement as well.

Good for Rajni and CM team. I also thought the film was entertaining.
