May be we should all write to DEI and tell them this kind of DVD is not acceptable. If there are enough of us complaining just to one company then they might listen and will understand that the DVD fans are not all stupid.

I absolutely agree with you on this. We must write to DEI and express are strong feelings against the use of Silver media for their DVDs. IF enough peopel write to them I feel they might do somethign about it. IT is because not enough people complain that they don't feel the need to do something about it. At the least we should write to DEI, of all the companies I think they might listen to us. I guess you can tell that I have not yet lost complete faith in DEI, but believe me my patience is running thin.

Why would cheaper (silver as you claim) DVDs stop playing after using them only a few times??? I was under the impression that the poly cover used to protect the disc itself does not wear down.

Some while back mentioned this problem being related to ‘DVD Rot’ which hit headlines while back. I found an article which makes interesting reading although fails to totally identify the problem or offer any solution.

quote: "The cause of the DVD problem probably lies with the glue between the layers or the with the aluminization or dyes in the layers. It could be an oxidation or chemical reaction with the glue, dye, or aluminium. It might also be a simple delamination of the layers caused by a failure of the glue over time. Since the problem always seems to be near the outer edge, it probably starts from the outer edge of the disk and work its way inward."

Full article can be read here;

..interestingly :wot: "IFPL" identifying markings on the discs which are reported in the article are also on the Abhay disc too! :nervous:

Another interesting article mentions another familiar name to the Indian DVD world; WAMO - many of the Indian DVD are replicated by WAMO and DVD Rot has been identified on these discs. Full article and links;
