Seems as though some are giving personal opinions, and some are giving box office report star ratings.

why cant people list about 5-10 of their favourite AB films, you will get an idea of popular choice instead of star ratings.

I think that that's a good idea. My favorite Amitabh-Bachchan films (alphabetically):

"Aakhree Raasta"
"Aankhen"
"Abhimaan"
"Aetbaar" (great A.B. performance...SO under-rated)
"AGNEEPATH" (notice the bold)
"Akayla"
"Aks"
"Amar Akbar Anthony"
"Anand"
"Bade Miyan Chote Miyan"
"Bawarchi" (narrator)
"Black"
"Chupke Chupke"
"Deewaar" (1975)
"Deewaar" (2004) (great Amitabh Bachchan — seems to be very neglected)
"Dev"
"Don"
"Gol Maal" (guest appearance)
"Indrajeet"
"Kaala Patthar"
"Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" (come on: it just has that good "feel")
"Khakee"
"Laawaris"
"Main Azaad Hoon"
"Majboor" (so [unfairly] ignored)
"Namak Halaal"
"Namak Haraam"
"Sarkar"
"Satte Pe Satta"
"Shakti"
"Sharaabi"
"Sholay"
"Sooryavansham" (UNDER-RATED AND NEGLECTED)
"Trishul"
"Waqt" (it's pretty good)
"Zanjeer"

And, finally, "Lal Baadshah." That's right. (Relax: it's an "it's-so-bad-it's-actually-kind-of-sort-of-really-not-so-bad-but-maybe-even-damned-watchable thing.)

I suggested 5 or 10 max not ABs filmography! I see you put in Bawarchi, what? was he in that film?
Instead let us vote for their favourite AB guest appearances, mine is Andhaa Kaanoon.

I actually started out listing 5–10, but, once I got started...you know how it is. No, he wasn't in "Bawarchi": he was the narrator; I accidentally wrote "guest appearance" (the mistake has been corrected).

That (guest appearances) isn't a bad idea. I, too, really liked him is "Andhaa Kaanoon." I think he almost single-handedly made it a watchable movie (his song, "Yeh Andhaa Kanoon Hai," is, for me, the highlight of the film). Another movie that was more or less "saved" by his (guest) presence, is "Geraftaar." In fact, he pretty much dominated the second half of the picture. The last one I'll mention, is "Gol Maal." He had a very small role (as himself), and it's not so much that he "made the film," as it is that it's just such an amazingly great film that I just couldn't not mention it.

I really hate the film Ganga Jamuna Saraswati! load of bakwaas from the 70s cinema put in a 1988 film!
AB should have used whatever youth he had (looking good at 46!) to do better films.

Also this was manmohan Desai's last directorial effort, dissapointing! A bad swan song!

Has anyone seen "Joomma Chumma In London"? Good stuff; I loved it all, but Amitabh's dialogue-recitations really stand out as great.

Anyone any comments on AB's earlier efforts like Bansi Birju & Ek nazar with Jaya, Sanjog with Mala Sinha, Adalat with Waheeda & Neetu Singh, Manzil with Moushami, Gehri Chaal with Jeetandra & Hema Malini (playing Hema's brother), Kasauti with Hema Malini, Besharm with Sharmila Tagore, Bandhe Haath with Mumtaz.

I've seen Ek Nazar: it's not that good, and, were it not for its being part of Amitabh Bachchan's filmography, no one would even know its name, to-day. Gehri Chaal is OK, but, again, it's nothing great, just your typical film of the times. I think this one is mentioned a bit more than Ek Nazar, touted as showcasing a "negative performance" by Bachchan; it's really not a "villainous role," and the film is, at best, a rental. I have Parwana, too, and it's actually not horrible; but, again, it's not exactly memorable. If you want something from early in Bachchan's career, check out Anand (though I'm sure you might already have done so); it's AWESOME. Another gem, is Majboor.
