This is not a complete list. This list has his movies from 1972 to 2000. It comes to more than 1000, because some of the movies are dubbed in many languages.

http://www.dvdunlimitedonline.com/raaja.htm

If you remove the dubbed movies (but count the remakes, since they have different BGM sometimes), its getting close to 1000 (short by less than 10). So hopefully this year Maestro gives us his 1000th movie this year.

This list also does not contain some of his non movie albums (close to 20)

If you want to add some movies, please PM me, I will add them. My eventual goal is to provide link for the individual song, its raaga, and probably a link to raaga.com or somesite where you can listen to the song as well.

Thanks

thanks a lot DU! there is some website with a huge list of Ilayaraja discography but I lost the link :(

anyway, IF even 10% of it is good, thats still 100 albums :D <3 it's more like 100% :)

btw, what is this..since Ilayaraja has 3 DIFFERENT albums with the title of "Geethanjali" (that I'm aware of)..
249 Geethanjali Malayalam ????

^Is that a dubbing of Tamil Geethanjali or Telugu Mani Ratnam-Geethanjali?^ or is it an original Geethanjali, making it 4 albums titled "Geethanjali" for our maestro?!??!??

BTW, the private album Geethanjali is absolutely wonderful! this coming from a young guy that grew up in LA! and i'm not even interested in the indian community here. indians rub me off the wrong way for some reason  even the young ones! especially the young ones!!

I think its an italian collobration of "some' sorts. Here is abrief description

http://www.aaa-angelica.com/next.asp

aiyaraaja`s Music Journey Live in Italy

...after 30 years of absence from the stage, even in India, Dr. Ilaiyaraaja performed live in Italy in the Opera House of Modena with a rich, mixed, ensemble of 18 elements (5 voices, flute, swarlin, violin soloist, string quartet, keyboards, drum machine, percussions, tablas, conductor), Ilaiyaraaja included....his music contains different musics, inspire reflections and meditations on the form, on its consume, for an eventual, possible expansion.....showing rare models and formulae.....an open form that is strictly linked to the inspiration of the moment, ready to welcome anything in a surprising structure, enriched by a, still so strong, indian tradition, where rhythm, melody, devotion and surprise travel together; it’s almost like a kaleidoscopic song, full of rules, but also rich in expressive possibilities......new music composed for this event by Ilaiyaraaja.....a rare musical portrait of India....a special event-concert presented for the 14 edition of Angelica, Festival Internazionale di Musica, and co-produced with l'Altro Suono Festival........dopo 30 anni di assenza dal palcoscenico, anche in India, Dr. Ilaiyaraaja si è presentato dal vivo con un ricco, misto, gruppo di 18 elementi(5 voci, flauto, swarlin, violino solista, quartetto d'archi, tastiere, drum machine, percussioni, tabla, direttore), Ilaiyaraaja incluso.....la sua musica, oltre a contenere molte musiche, può essere oggi un buon oggetto di riflessione, motivo di meditazione, sulla forma, sul suo consumo, per una eventuale, possibile, espansione.......mostrando modelli, formule rare......una forma aperta, strettamente legata all'ispirazione del momento, ad accogliere qualsiasi cosa in una struttura sorprendente, arricchita dalla tradizione indiana, ancora cos“ forte, dove ritmo, melodia, devozione, sorpresa, viaggiano insieme; quasi una canzone caleidoscopica, ricca di regole, ma anche di possibilitˆ espressive......nuova musica composta per questo evento da Ilaiyaraaja.....un raro ritratto musicale dell'India.....un evento-concerto speciale presentato per la 14 ediione di Angelica, Festival Internazionale di Musica, e co-prodotto con l'Altro Suono Festival....

There's an album available on Amazon.com which looks like a collection of Tamil songs and two instrumentals (Singing Self and Nothing But Wind).

Ok , i have the album with me ( Illayaraja's Music Journey) - personally i think its a must-buy for any serious illayaraja fan. It feels like Illayaraja un-plugged with combination of film/non-filmi music. The CD itself is expensive ( ~ 20$) but is well worth the price.

I will see if i can upload some sample mp3 ( perhaps a couple of tracks ) - i hope i dont get into any trouble doing so.

Mods - will there be a problem if i upload mp3's on to the zulm server ??

You can buy the CD from

maybe i should just keep away from the "other" thread. there is just too much crud to respond to at this time on a hot and steamy day.

anyway, don't bother re: mp3s. Just give us a short review on the recording quality. I'm quite skepticle re: live performance recordings. Your "must-buy" is enough to get me to purchase this cd!

The album is definitely illayaraja un-plugged ( the only other unplugged album I own is nirvana unplugged and its one of my fav albums) . The sound quality is def acceptable ( you do hear slight interruption , but that is something that’s part of the concert itself - adds a nice feel to the album). The album itself is a mix of film/non-film compositions containing pieces from both Hindi and Tamil languages. The following are the tracks on the CD

1 Aya Kalaigal 2.18
2 Pavanaguru 5.44
3 Sunu Oh! 3.33
4 Mayil Pola 4.28
5 Janani 8.08
6 Music Journey (Lullaby And Games Of Tamilnadu) 10.33
7 En Ullil 5.21
8 Ilankathu 6.52
9 Three in One (Introduction) 3.36
10 Three in One 3.29
11 Asaiya Kathula 4.40
12 Veetukku 9.24
13 Orchestra (Mood Kapi) 7.51
14 Mathacha 0.51

My fav has to be Track #2,Track #6, Track # 9, Track # 10 , Track #11, Track # 13

Is it a 'must-buy' - I still think it is , even for people not exposed to his music, it contains a nice mix of folk/classical ( Indian and western). I might not be listening to this album after 1 month, but I still think its a valuable addition to my collection. Thumps up from me !
